What You Will Do

GFT is seeking a Sr. Mechanical Engineer with a strong interest in mechanical systems to lead mechanical designs. Work will be across sectors such as K-12, Higher Education, Federal, Aviation, Food & Beverage, and Transportation. This position is located in Boston, MA.

Responsibilities

• Survey and study building mechanical equipment and systems.
• Design HVAC systems, building automation systems, plumbing systems, and fire suppression systems.
• Provide technical direction to mechanical designers and technicians on specific projects.
• Write progress and other reports.
• Write project specifications.
• Manage projects.
• Identify and resolve problems proactively.
• Coordinate and verify project deliverables.
• Participate in business‑development meetings, prepare proposals, and engage with clients.

Required Qualifications

• A BS or higher in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited institution.
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
• 8+ years of experience independently designing HVAC systems for renovated and new facilities, including hydronic & steam boiler plants, chiller plants, terminal unit systems, distribution systems, and control systems.
• 5+ years of experience using energy‑modeling and heat‑load software for energy use analyses and heat‑load calculations.
• Strong understanding of psychrometrics.
• Thorough knowledge of mechanical building codes, energy codes, and construction standards.
• Strong understanding of DDC controls and control design.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Project management experience.
• Experience with REVIT, Architectural/MEP packages, and BIM360.
• Plumbing experience.
