Job summary

KLA is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer for the Central Engineering team to design mechanical parts and subsystems for next-gen wafer inspection tools. The role spans from concept through prototype testing, with cross-functional collaboration to ensure manufacturability and cost targets.

You will conduct simulations (thermal, vibration, FEA) using Creo and ANSYS, develop documentation, and support handoff to manufacturing. Excellent collaboration is essential.

Qualifications

  • Doctorate with 0 years, Master with 3 years, or Bachelor with 5 years related experience.
  • Solid engineering fundamentals in mechanics, thermodynamics, and structural analysis.
  • Proficiency in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (ASME Y14.5) and welding (AWS A2.4).
  • Experience with machining, sheet metal, welding, plating and related processes.
  • 3D CAD modeling in Creo/Parametric; FEA in Pro/Mechanical or ANSYS; CFD in ANSYS suite.

Responsibilities

  • Lead complete design process from requirements to BOM and schedule.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to apply best practices in design.
  • Perform thermal, vibration, and FEA analyses; create detailed drawings and specs.
  • Work with Systems and Manufacturing engineers for integration and testing.
  • Develop assembly/test procedures and supporting docs.

The engineer will be responsible for designing mechanical parts and subsystems for next generation wafer inspection tools!ResponsibilitiesLead the complete design process, including requirements, concept, design, testing, BOM structure, and scheduling.Work cross-functionally and drive implementation of design best practices into product design that meets the requirements and specifications, SEMI standards, as well as adhering to manufacturability and reasonable cost.Conduct various analysis, such as thermal, vibration and FEA modeling, conceptual and detailed design using Creo Parametric, detailed drawings, design review presentations, procurement of prototype parts, system integration, prototype testing, and handoff to manufacturingCollaborate with engineering groups such as Systems engineers and Manufacturing engineers to ensure seamless integration and subsystem test or system level.Develop the required supporting documentation, such as assembly and test procedures.QualificationsSolid understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals such as mechanics, thermodynamics, and structural analysisAbility to collect requirements, generate conceptual and detailed designs for mechanical parts/subsystems and possess analytical skills to evaluate feasibility of designs.Ability to carry out assembly, testing and resolving issues at prototype and integrated system levelsExperience in detail drawing creation and application and interpretation of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (ASME Y14.5) and welding (AWS A2.4) symbolsFamiliar with engineering materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum alloys, and plasticsFamiliar with manufacturing processes including machining, sheet metal fabrication, welding, plating, etc.Experience in 3D solid/CAD modeling, preferably Creo/Parametric (previously Pro/Engineer)Experience in structural finite element analysis (FEA) and software, preferably Pro/Mechanical and/or ANSYS MechanicalExperience in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis software, preferably ANSYS Icepak/Fluent/CFX or similarHighly organized and efficient, with a strong ability to optimize time management.Strong collaboration and communication skillsMinimum QualificationsDoctorate (Academic) Degree and 0 years related work experience; Master's Level Degree and related work experience of 3 years; Bachelor's Level Degree and related work experience of 5 yearsBase Pay Range: $117,800.00 - $200,300.00 AnnuallyPrimary Location: USA-CA-Milpitas-KLAKLA’s total rewards package for employees may also include participation in performance incentive programs and eligibility for additional benefits including but not limited to: medical, dental, vision, life, and other voluntary benefits, 401(K) including company matching, employee stock purchase program (ESPP), student debt assistance, tuition reimbursement program, development and career growth opportunities and programs, financial planning benefits, wellness benefits including an employee assistance program (EAP), paid time off and paid company holidays, and family care and bonding leave.Interns are eligible for some of the benefits listed.
