Job summary

You will interface with project teams, perform analyses, and develop specifications to advance reactor design and regulatory readiness. This position emphasizes high-temperature materials and collaboration with suppliers.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of related experience or advanced degree with related experience.
• Degree in Materials Science/Engineering or related technical discipline is preferred.
• Experience with nuclear materials in reactor environments is desirable.
• Experience qualifying materials for highly regulated applications is preferred.
• Understanding of creep, fatigue, and fracture in high-temperature systems is important.
• Strong communication skills are desired.

Job Title: Senior Materials Engineer

Type: Long term Contract

Compensation: $55.00 - $91.00 per hour

Work Model: Remote – offsite

Responsibilities

• Interface with project teams to provide material selection, processes, and requirements for reactor development programs.

• Perform scientific analysis of reports and test data (e.g., metallography, non-destructive inspection, mechanical properties, ductility) and generate technical specifications to document new knowledge related to reactor design and qualification.

• Oversee test programs designed to develop an understanding of complex mechanical phenomena (e.g., creep, fatigue, creep fatigue, stress corrosion cracking, and fracture) in sodium cooled fast reactor plant materials such as steel alloys.

• Provide materials engineering support for the procurement of engineered components and systems including leading technical development of suppliers to increase technology readiness level of key components.

Requirements

• Minimum of 10 years of related experience with a B.S. degree; or an advanced degree with related experience, or equivalent experience.

• A degree in Materials Science/Engineering or a related technical discipline is desired.

• Experience with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC) is preferred.

• Prior experience in materials development, testing, and characterization for a nuclear reactor environment is desirable.

• Experience qualifying materials for service in highly regulated applications is preferred.

• Experience developing material processing specifications, evaluating material selections, and reviewing vendor material definitions.

• An understanding of complex mechanical phenomena (e.g., creep, fatigue, creep fatigue, stress corrosion cracking, and fracture) in high-temperature systems.

• Strong communication skills desired.
