Job summary

1X in San Carlos, California is seeking a Materials and Battery Compliance Engineer to lead compliance efforts across their humanoid robot platform. The ideal candidate will drive certification programs and interpret global regulatory requirements to ensure product safety and market access.

Candidates should have at least 5 years of experience in battery and materials compliance, along with a thorough understanding of UL certification processes and related safety standards. The compensation is competitive, ranging from $171,000 – $200,000 plus equity.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in battery compliance, materials compliance, or product certification engineering.
• Hands-on experience with UL certification processes and related battery safety standards.
• Direct experience with standards including UN 38.3, UL 1642, UL 2054, IEC 62133-2:2017, and ANSI/NEMA C18.
• Strong working knowledge of global materials regulations including RoHS, REACH, WEEE, Conflict Minerals, and California Prop 65.

Job description

Your Charter

As a Materials and Battery Compliance Engineer, you will lead battery and materials compliance efforts across our humanoid robot platform. You’ll interpret global regulatory requirements, drive certification programs, and partner cross-functionally to ensure products meet safety and market access requirements across key global markets.

Key Outcomes

• Develop and execute global certification strategies for battery systems and regulated materials supporting product launch timelines
• Translate regulatory requirements into actionable engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain requirements
• Lead pre-certification and formal certification testing activities, including issue resolution and corrective actions
• Own compliance documentation, labeling requirements, test reports, and certification evidence packages
• Build and maintain strong working relationships with certification labs, notified bodies, and regulatory agencies

Key Competencies

• Deep technical expertise in battery compliance standards and global materials regulations
• Strong program management capability across complex, cross-functional certification efforts
• Ability to interpret ambiguous regulations and operationalize them into practical engineering requirements

Minimum Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in battery compliance, materials compliance, or product certification engineering
• Hands-on experience with UL certification processes and related battery safety standards
• Direct experience with standards including UN 38.3, UL 1642, UL 2054, IEC 62133-2:2017, and ANSI/NEMA C18
• Strong working knowledge of global materials regulations including RoHS, REACH, WEEE, Conflict Minerals, and California Prop 65
• Experience managing certification testing programs, compliance documentation, and external certification partners
  Preferred Skills
  • Familiarity with materials characterization and analytical test equipment including SEM-EDX, FTIR, XRF, ICP-MS / ICP-AES, GC/MS, and Ion Chromatography
  • Experience supporting battery certification programs across multiple global markets

  Compensation Range

  $171,000 – $200,000 + Equity
