Job description

About 1X

We’re building humanoid robots that work in any space humans exist with the mission to create an abundance of labor. Simple, but it’s not.
To do this right, we have to solve robotics, AI, software, hardware, manufacturing and operations at the same time, at scale, in a form factor that has to be safe. If you’re inspired by this, you’ll thrive here. We’ve been at this since 2014 and we’re at the point where the hard problems are behind us and the hard work is in front of us.
NEO is our flagship - a general purpose robot designed to move, learn, and operate in the real world alongside real people. We’re not demoing it, we’re shipping it. We’re excited to meet you, if this excites you.
If you’ve spent your career working on problems that matter and want to see them actually reach the world - this is that moment. We’re scaling, we’re hiring with intention, and we need people who want to build something that will genuinely change how humans spend their time safely creating abundance for all.

About the Team:

The Test & Validation team makes sure NEO and its critical systems are safe, reliable, and ready for the real world. We build and operate the test infrastructure needed to understand how our hardware performs, where it fails, and what needs to improve before it reaches customers.

The Battery Test team focuses on validating the battery and charging systems that power NEO. You’ll work hands‑on with battery hardware, test equipment, fixtures, and data while partnering closely with Battery, Electrical, Reliability, and Design Engineering teams.

Your Charter:

Own the hands‑on execution of battery and charger validation testing, ensuring tests are run safely, consistently, and with enough quality and technical rigor to give engineering teams confidence in the results.

You’ll take responsibility for test setup, equipment operation, monitoring, post‑test inspection, data collection, and reporting. You’ll also help maintain and improve the test capability itself, troubleshoot failures, and surface issues quickly so engineering teams can make better product decisions.

Key Outcomes:
  • Execute battery and charger validation and reliability tests safely and consistently, from test setup and fixture integration through test completion.

  • Maintain test readiness and equipment uptime across thermal chambers, power supplies, data acquisition systems, wiring, relays, and test‑control equipment.

  • Produce accurate, traceable test data and clear test reports that allow engineering teams to make timely decisions.

  • Quickly identify and document test, equipment, and hardware failures, providing enough technical context to drive effective troubleshooting and root cause investigation.

  • Improve test repeatability and lab readiness by maintaining equipment, updating procedures, supporting test profile changes, and keeping test setups organized and reliable.

Key Competencies:
  • Hands‑on technician who is comfortable working directly with battery hardware, electrical systems, test equipment, fixtures, and instrumentation.

  • Strong attention to safety and detail, particularly when working with high‑energy battery systems and thermal or environmental test equipment.

  • Practical troubleshooting skills and the ability to distinguish equipment or setup problems from actual hardware failures.

  • Organized and disciplined in test execution, documentation, data collection, and reporting.

  • Comfortable working independently in a fast‑moving environment while collaborating closely with engineering teams.

Minimum Requirements:
  • 3+ years of hands‑on experience in battery testing, hardware testing, laboratory operations, or a closely related technical environment.

  • Associate degree in an engineering or technical discipline, or equivalent hands‑on experience.

  • Experience operating and troubleshooting laboratory or test equipment such as power supplies, thermal chambers, data acquisition systems, wiring, relays, or test‑control systems.

  • Ability to interpret test plans and specifications, configure test setups, collect data, and identify issues during test execution.

  • Experience using Excel to organize and analyze test data and communicate results clearly.

Preferred Skills:
  • Experience testing lithium‑ion battery packs, battery management systems, chargers, or other energy‑storage products.

  • Familiarity with battery cycling, battery safety testing, thermal testing, or reliability testing.

  • Experience with test automation, data acquisition, or scripting tools such as Python.

  • Experience maintaining laboratory equipment, developing test procedures, or improving test throughput.

What does a successful 1X Team Member look like:

They say what they mean, finish what they start, and hold themselves to a standard before anyone has to ask. We push each other to be better, and we do it with honesty and respect.

Compensation Range:

$30.00 - $48.00/hr

Benefits:
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage

  • Generous paid time off, company holidays, and parental leave

  • 401(k) plan with company match (100% on the first 3% of contributions, 50% on the next 2%)

  • Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) and Health Savings Accounts (HSA) options

  • Commuter benefits (transit and parking)
