About the Role
As our Sr. Manager, Tax & Compliance, you are responsible for overseeing and managing processes related to all indirect taxes, including but not limited to sales and use tax, property tax, gross receipts tax and business license matters.

You will partner closely with our external tax consultants to assist with providing information and documentation related to our quarterly income tax provision calculations. The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, experience managing a team and bring a passionate commitment to help foster a diverse, inclusive, and collaborative culture that delivers high-impact accounting and business results.

This position is remote and will report into Lovesac Corporate HUB based in Stamford, CT.

Candidates must fully reside in the United States at all times during employment and should have the ability to travel as needed.

What You’ll Do

  • Ensure that Lovesac meets all its indirect tax compliance obligations for all touchpoint locations and ecommerce sales.
  • Oversee tax accounting staff and manage their workflow in respect to daily functions, closing tasks, audit request and special projects.
  • Manage any and all indirect tax audits with states and taxing jurisdictions. Provide timely responses to any inquiries, analyze workpapers and work closely with auditors to close audits in a reasonable timeframe.
  • Collaborate with other teams to attend to all month/quarter/year-end reporting obligations on a timely basis.
  • Support the continuous improvement of internal controls, including preparing process documentation to support audit readiness.
  • Manage tax engine and improve tax operation process, focusing on automation, efficiency and accuracy of data. Ensure any new products, touchpoints and revenue streams are accurately characterized and implemented within the tax engine.
  • Perform monthly review of direct reports month end journal entries and reconciliations.
  • Dive into complex indirect tax technical matters and find solutions for business needs.
  • Work closely with external tax consultants and with Lovesac finance team to gather requested documents that are utilized to calculate Lovesac’s income tax provision.
  • Stay abreast of the latest news and changes around indirect tax legislative developments.
  • Perform any other reasonable duties for this role as requested by management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and Master’s in Taxation and/or CPA required.
  • Minimum of 6 years’ experience in the Tax discipline.
  • Retail experience and Big 4 experience preferred.
  • A technical background with a detailed understanding of US indirect tax technology, Avalara Tax Engine preferred.
  • Prior experience managing sales and tax use audits.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive) required

  • Must be able to travel using various forms of transportation, as required by the Company in its sole discretion, for meetings and conferences held either at our offices or offsite (i.e. quarterly team connection weeks, companywide meetings, vendor visits).
