Job summary

Uber is seeking a Senior Manager for its Delivery Data Science team in New York. You will lead a high-performing group of scientists, shaping the technical vision and roadmaps for key product areas and collaborating with engineering, product, and operations to deliver high-impact ML-driven initiatives.

You’ll guide strategic analytics, build robust data foundations, and mentor both senior ICs and managers. A strong track record in production ML and cross-functional leadership is required.

Qualifications

• Ph.D., M.S., or Bachelor's degree in Math, Economics, Statistics, Engineering, or other quantitative fields.
• Minimum 10 years of industry experience as a Scientist or equivalent (8+ years with a Ph.D.).
• Minimum 4 years of experience in people management, with a proven track record of managing managers and senior individual contributors.
• Proven leadership in influencing long-term strategy and technical direction across organizations.
• Strategic organizational skills to restructure teams and drive impact.
• Advanced expertise in experimental design, causal inference, and ML in production environments.
• Proficiency with Python or R for large-scale data analysis.

About the Role

The Delivery team is in charge of the Eater and Merchant experience for UberEats - with the goal of guiding strategy, defining metrics and optimizing the experience for the product team. As a senior manager for the team, you'll be in charge of managing a team of talented Scientists to identify and drive high impact initiatives.

What you’ll do

• Lead and develop a high-performing organization of scientists, including mentoring senior ICs and coaching other people managers to do their best work.
• Define the technical vision and roadmap for critical product areas, balancing customer empathy with business needs and practical engineering constraints.
• Drive strategic thinking in marketplace design, pricing algorithms, and machine learning applications to ensure efficiency, reliability, and long-term system health.
• Refine ambiguous, high-impact business questions into structured analytical frameworks and deliver actionable insights in executive leadership forums.
• Guide the establishment of data foundations, instrumentation, and observability infrastructure for rapidly evolving product areas.
• Partner cross-functionally with Engineering, Product, Ops, and Design to iterate on strategy and execute high-visibility initiatives that move the needle for Uber.

Basic Qualifications

• Ph.D., M.S., or Bachelor's degree in Math, Economics, Statistics, Engineering, or other quantitative fields.
• Minimum 10 years of industry experience as a Scientist or equivalent (8+ years with a Ph.D.).
• Minimum 4 years of experience in people management, with a proven track record of managing managers and senior individual contributors.

• Advanced expertise in experimental design, causal inference, and machine learning model development within production environments.
• Proficiency with Python or R for large-scale data analysis.

• Excellent storyteller with the ability to translate deep technical subjects into narratives that influence non-technical executive audiences.

For New York City, NY-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD $252,000 per year - USD $280,000 per year.

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD $252,000 per year - USD $280,000 per year.

For Seattle, WA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD $252,000 per year - USD $280,000 per year.

For all US locations, you will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. All full-time employees are eligible to participate in a 401(k) plan. You will also be eligible for various benefits.
