Job summary

Amazon in Sunnyvale, CA seeks a Sr. Manager, PMT to own Alexa's shared building blocks and the horizontal customer experience they provide.

You will define what belongs in the shared layer, establish guarantees for dependent teams, and ensure consistency across apps, devices, and web experiences. You will write PRDs and narratives for senior leadership, collaborate with engineering leaders on architecture, and drive adoption by transitioning teams to shared components.

Responsibilities

• Own the product strategy and multi year roadmap for Alexa's shared building blocks: identity, profiles, personalization and memory, entitlements, and the primitives behind lists, reminders, alarms, and routines.
• Decide which capabilities graduate into the shared layer and which stay inside a single experience, and publish the interface contracts and quality bars that consuming teams build against.
• Own the horizontal customer experience across endpoints, so behavior stays consistent whether a customer is on the Alexa app, a screen device, a speaker, or the web.
• Set direction in writing through product requirements, planning documents, and narratives for senior leadership review.
• Partner with engineering leaders on architecture and sequencing, and make explicit tradeoffs between platform investment and near term feature delivery.
• Drive adoption. Bring feature teams onto the shared building blocks, retire duplicate implementations, and measure the redundant work removed.
• Own privacy, data handling, and compliance requirements for customer data that moves across profiles, accounts, and regions.
• Define the metrics for this layer, including adoption, latency, availability, and customer facing quality, and run the inspection mechanism that holds them on track.

Alexa is built on a set of shared primitives, components, and systems. First party Amazon teams and third party developers use them to create the experiences customers actually touch, and together they decide whether Alexa feels like one coherent product.

We are hiring a Sr. Manager, PMT to own those building blocks and the horizontal customer experience they produce. You will define what belongs in the shared layer, what it guarantees to the teams that depend on it, and how a customer's experience holds together as they move across every place Alexa exists. The quality of this layer sets how fast everyone else building for Alexa can move.

A day in the life

Your day moves between engineering design reviews, partner teams, and writing. A feature team wants profile aware behavior shipped this quarter, and you decide whether it belongs in the shared layer and what the contract looks like. Another team is about to build something that already exists, and you redirect them. Later you are in a data handling review with privacy and legal partners, then drafting the narrative that takes a platform investment to senior leadership. You work daily with engineering, design, science, legal, customer service, and the product teams across Alexa endpoints.

About the team

We build the part of Alexa that other Alexa teams build on. Our customers are the hundreds of millions of people who use Alexa, and the Amazon teams shipping the experiences those people touch. We care about getting primitives right, because a decision made here shows up in every Alexa surface for years and is expensive to unwind. We are a team with unusually wide reach. We work through written documents, common patterns, systems, share principles, and we expect a principal to set direction rather than wait to be handed it.

Basic Qualifications

- 6+ years of team management experience

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
