Conexus in Torrance, CA is seeking a Senior Manager of Accounting to build and scale the function in a high-growth environment. This hands-on leadership role will own month-end close, fixed assets, CIP, and technical accounting while partnering with operations and finance to align costs with budgets.

The ideal candidate has 8+ years of accounting experience, strong US GAAP knowledge, and a proven track record in scaling processes and teams in a capital-intensive setting.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of accounting experience with hands-on ownership of close and reporting.
• 3+ years managing and developing accounting professionals.
• Strong U.S. GAAP knowledge for a capital-intensive environment.
• Fixed assets, capitalization, and depreciation experience.
• Construction-in-progress / percentage-of-completion accounting experience.
• Startup or high-growth company experience a plus.
• Experience building scalable accounting processes and controls.

Responsibilities

• Own the month-end close, journal entries, reconciliations, flux analysis, and reporting.
• Lead fixed assets and CIP accounting, including capitalization policy and depreciation.
• Partner with construction, finance, and operations on cost tracking and actuals vs budget.
• Develop and maintain accounting policies, controls, and process documentation.
• Prepare internal leadership/investor reporting and support audits/tax.
• Drive technical accounting matters (ASC 718, ASC 842, ASC 606).
• Identify opportunities to automate and improve accounting workflows.
• Support ERP/automation implementations and scale the accounting team.

High-growth advanced energy company developing factory-made, high-temperature nuclear technology designed to provide clean power for industrial applications, hydrogen production, and next-generation manufacturing. The company is rapidly scaling from R&D and prototype development into manufacturing and commercial deployment.

The Opportunity:

The Senior Manager of Accounting will be a hands-on accounting leader responsible for building and scaling the accounting function as the company grows. This is a builder's role with significant ownership across month-end close, GL, fixed assets, construction-in-progress, technical accounting, controls, and process improvement.

A major focus will be supporting the accounting needs of a capital-intensive business, including CIP, fixed assets, capitalization, project-level cost tracking, and depreciation.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the month-end close, including journal entries, reconciliations, flux analysis, and financial reporting.
• Own fixed assets and construction-in-progress accounting, including capitalization policy, project-level cost tracking, depreciation, and R&D vs. capitalizable costs.
• Partner with construction, Finance, and Operations teams on cost assignment and actuals vs. budget.
• Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, controls, and process documentation.
• Prepare internal reporting for leadership and investors and support audits and tax reporting.
• Lead technical accounting matters including ASC 718, ASC 842, ASC 606, and capitalization.
• Identify opportunities to automate and improve accounting workflows.
• Support ERP, AP automation, expense management, and other systems implementations.
• Build and develop the accounting team as the organization scales.
• Serve as the accounting subject matter expert for operational and technical matters.

Must Haves

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 8+ years of accounting experience with hands-on ownership of close and financial reporting.
• 3+ years managing and developing accounting professionals.
• Experience building and scaling accounting processes, controls, and team structures.
• Strong U.S. GAAP knowledge.
• Fixed assets and capitalization experience in a capital-intensive, hardware, or manufacturing environment.
• Construction-in-progress / percentage-of-completion accounting experience.
• Startup or high-growth company experience.
• Strong Excel and accounting systems experience.
• ITAR compliant – U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident (green card holder).

• Big 4 or regional public accounting experience.
• Cost accounting in a manufacturing or inventory-intensive environment.
• ERP or systems implementation experience, including NetSuite, Ramp, or AP automation.
