Schwab remains committed to providing increased visibility to career growth opportunities and job requirements. This posting announcement is part of increased transparency and while all qualified applicants will be reviewed and considered, this organization has a preferred candidate identified for this role.

At Schwab, you’re empowered to make an impact on your career. Here, innovative thought meets creative problem solving, helping us “challenge the status quo” and transform the finance industry together.

We believe in the importance of in-office collaboration and fully intend for the selected candidate for this role to work on site in the specified location(s).

The Business Strategy & Data Governance Lead serves as a strategic partner within the Client & Securities Data Management (CSDM) organization. The Strategy Lead will assess, synthesize, and communicate insights from emerging trends, opportunities, and risks to inform and support leadership’s strategic planning and decision-making for Reference Data Platforms (RDP). The role will help translate enterprise and CSDM priorities into clear strategic choices, investment recommendations, measurable outcomes, and actionable plans for RDP.

In parallel, the role will reestablish and lead the data governance strategy for the full CSDM portfolio, including Client & Account Technology (CAT), Offer Order/Client Understand (O2), and RDP. The Lead will partner across Product Management, Business Architecture, Technology, Data, Risk, Compliance, and Operations to strengthen accountability for data, improve data quality and control outcomes, and provide leadership with the information needed to manage data-related priorities and risks.

What you will do:

RDP Business Strategy & Decision Support

  • Lead RDP strategy by translating enterprise priorities, market trends, risks, and opportunities into clear recommendations, measurable outcomes, and investment decisions.
  • Partner across Product, Technology, and Business Architecture to align strategy, roadmaps, capabilities, and execution priorities.

CSDM Data Governance Leadership

  • Reestablish and lead CSDM data governance across CAT, O2, and RDP to strengthen accountability, data quality, controls, and responsible data use.
  • Define a practical CSDM data governance operating model with clear ownership, stewardship, decision rights, escalation paths, and accountability.
  • Provide leadership visibility into governance priorities, risk exposure, remediation progress, and maturity.

Strategic Transformation & Operating Model Evolution

  • Identify opportunities to simplify processes, improve controls, and increase organizational effectiveness.
  • Partner with Business Architecture and Product leadership to ensure future-state capabilities and operating models support RDP strategic outcomes.
  • Help leadership prioritize transformation activity based on value, readiness, risk, dependencies, and capacity.

Executive Communications & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Develop executive-ready materials, decision narratives, and recommendations that drive alignment and timely action.
  • Facilitate cross-functional engagement and represent RDP strategy and CSDM governance in enterprise forums.

AI Strategy & Innovation

  • Evaluate AI and emerging technology opportunities through a business-value, data-readiness, risk, and governance lens.
  • Champion responsible AI adoption and outcome measurement across the organization.

Role Agility & Future Growth

  • Focus on the areas of highest strategic value while maintaining flexibility as priorities, technology, and organizational needs evolve.
  • Build scalable strategy and governance practices that can expand with future role maturity.
What you have

To ensure that we fulfill our promise of 'challenging the status quo,' this role has specific qualifications that successful candidates should have.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in strategy, business transformation, data management, product management, consulting, or related leadership roles.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess complex information, synthesize insights, and translate findings into clear leadership recommendations.
  • Experience developing business or portfolio strategies and defining measurable outcomes.
  • Strong understanding of data governance, data quality, and data management principles.
  • Experience working in complex, highly regulated environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior leaders, facilitate decisions, and lead through ambiguity.
  • Exceptional executive communication, presentation, and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Proven ability to build alignment and drive outcomes across multiple organizations without direct authority.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience establishing or reestablishing enterprise or portfolio-level data governance programs.
  • Knowledge of securities, reference data, client, account, or master data management domains.
