Job summary

Grocery Outlet is seeking a Senior Inventory Accounting Manager in Emeryville, CA to lead month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations, and financial analytics. The role reports to the Director of Corporate Accounting and requires strong US GAAP knowledge, CPA, and 8+ years of experience.

The candidate will mentor the team, ensure SOX controls, and collaborate cross-functionally with business partners. Final compensation includes base salary, bonus, equity and 401(k) plan.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree required.
• CPA certification required/preferred.
• 8+ years of combined experience in private industry and public accounting.
• Strong knowledge of current US GAAP.
• Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and cross-functional collaboration.
• Ability to manage time and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead month-end and quarter-end close activities with balance sheet reconciliations and analytics.
• Reconcile general ledger activity and perform flux analyses to support close.
• Improve account reconciliations and financial statement preparation processes.
• Ensure SOX controls compliance within responsibilities.
• Coordinate with outside audit firms on questions and requests.
• Develop accounting policies and procedures to increase efficiency and control.
• Mentor and develop team members; provide performance management and career guidance.
• Support independent operators and bridge discrepancies with timely communication.

About The Role

Senior Inventory Accounting Manager will help manage the month-end close process, reconciliation review process, and internal control monitoring process. The preferred candidate should have the aptitude and willingness for learning complex accounting concepts. This role reports to the Director of Corporate Accounting.

Responsibilities Include

• Lead and manage the month-end and quarter-end close activities including timely and thorough balance sheet reconciliations, financial analysis, and trial balance review.
• Reconcile and analyze general ledger activity through a detailed flux analysis and manage leading the team to timely and accurate completion of these analytics.
• Lead the continuous improvement of account reconciliations and enhance deliverables pertaining to month-end close and financial statement preparation.
• Ensure compliance with all SOX controls under your areas of responsibility.
• Work directly with outside audit firms on audit questions and requests in a timely manner.
• Support the development of key accounting policies and procedures to increase efficiency and provide appropriate control.
• Support the growth and development of the team through hands on mentoring on an individualized basis, performance management, and career development.
• Supervision of team, including performance management, career development, and mentoring.
• Support the independent operators, including providing timely and thorough responses.
• Support key business partners in bridging any discrepancies between expectations and actuals with clear communication and timely resolution.
• Manage and complete special projects, as necessary.

About The Pay

• Base Salary Range: $150,000 – $170,000

About You

• Bachelor’s Degree
• CPA
• 8+ years of combined experience in private industry and public accounting
• Strong knowledge of current US GAAP
• Detail-oriented and problem-solving skills
• Outstanding interpersonal, communication, and business partnering skills with demonstrated ability to work cross functionally and at various levels within a company
• Excellent time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines and operate with a sense of urgency
• Ability to quickly prioritize multiple deliverables in a fast-paced environment
