Job summary

Medidata in New York City seeks a Sr. Manager, Internal Communications to shape the strategy, inform employees about the business, and empower action that drives value across intranet, emails, blogs, social media, newsletters and events.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in a corporate communications role.

This is a hybrid remote/in-office role.

About the Team

As the Sr. Manager, Internal Communications, you will play a critical role to inform Medidata employees about the business strategy, inspire them behind the company mission and empower them to take action that drives value. You will influence and cultivate that strategy and execute supporting initiatives across a variety of channels, including an intranet, emails, blogs, social media, regular newsletters, employee events and more. You will work closely with a range of colleagues including senior executives, HR, Corporate Communications and an array of internal teams to establish internal messages and drive engagement across the employee population based on the data‑driven insights you track from our activations.

Responsibilities
  • Lead internal content strategy, editorial plans, storytelling and information for internal channels in conjunction with senior executives.
  • Lead and execute internal communications projects and campaigns that align with, articulate and support the company's key messages, business priorities and growth initiatives, as well as influence a positive culture and engaged workforce.
  • Creatively conceive and lead communication programs and content strategy across multiple channels: intranet/online, social media, multimedia, video, print, newsletter, conferences, kick‑off meetings and thematic events.
  • Understand employee perceptions and advocate for plans to improve teamwork, collaboration and team spirit.
  • Drive new approaches to deliver communications in more efficient and effective ways by challenging processes and recommending new approaches.
  • Develop messaging for topics including policy, culture, initiatives and other areas of strategic corporate significance as directed by executive leaders.
  • Work directly with executives and business leaders to identify needs, objectives and strategies to create effective and meaningful communications, including scripts, speeches, and presentations.
  • Handle the internal communication response to crisis situations which affect organizational perception and reputation.
  • Ensure organizational initiatives and projects are successfully communicated to employees and stakeholders.
  • Create an open forum for employees to ask questions and share content or thoughts. Respond to feedback from staff and adjust communications content accordingly.
  • Convene internal communications center of excellence to standardize execution, share best practices and maximize communication resources and effort.
  • Track data from activations and executions to understand employee knowledge and sentiment and use those insights to make program recommendations.
Qualifications
  • Lead communications strategy while paying close attention to details and managing complex campaigns.
  • Build strong relationships and work within a team environment across different time zones.
  • Excel in interviewing, copy‑writing and editing.
  • Presentation at a high level - effectively blend personal delivery and ability to lead and coach people and teams.
  • Demonstrate effective listening, problem‑solving and counseling skills; ability to build alignment to shared vision.
  • Have proven change management communication skills.
  • Manage project, time and budget to optimize execution.
  • Are flexible and adaptable in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Work autonomously and act independently.
  • Are familiar with digital and video means of communication.
  • Use AI to streamline workflows and accelerate output and delivery and evolve its use in a rapidly changing landscape
  • Focus on a data‑led, insights‑driven approach to determine the right strategy and optimize execution.
  • Requires a minimum of 8 years of experience in a communications team, especially internal communication, for a large organization, is most sought after.
  • Bachelor's degree required; preferably in journalism, communications, public relations or marketing. A Master's degree is a plus.
  • Experience in writing for a variety of different audiences is also desired. General journalistic or marketing experience is beneficial.
  • Prior management of complex projects and advising senior managers is also required
  • Understanding the life sciences industry is a plus

As with all roles, Medidata sets ranges based on a number of factors including function, level, candidate expertise and experience, and geographic location. Pay ranges for candidates in locations other than New York City, may differ based on the local market data in that region.

The salary range for positions that will be physically based in New York is $114,750- $153,000

Base pay is one part of the Total Rewards that Medidata provides to compensate and recognize employees for their work. Most sales positions are eligible for a commission on the terms of applicable plan documents, and many of Medidata's non‑sales positions are eligible for annual bonuses. Medidata believes that benefits should connect you to the support you need when it matters most and provides benefits, including medical, dental, life and disability insurance, 401(k) matching, family leave, flexible paid time off; and 10 paid holidays per year.

Salary Pay Transparency

Compensation for the role will be commensurate with experience. The total expected compensation range will be between $114750 and $153000, representing the base salary (or annualized salary based on estimated hourly compensation) and target bonus.
