Job summary

Harbor Freight Tools is seeking a Sr. Manager of Domestic Transportation to lead and optimize transportation operations across inbound and outbound shipping, carrier and 3PL management, and dedicated transportation.

The role focuses on procurement, P&L management, performance measurement, and continuous improvement, with responsibilities to reduce cost, improve service, and implement effective transportation processes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead domestic transportation and logistics operations, including inbound and outbound shipping, carrier, dedicated transportation, and 3PL operations, to achieve cost, service, quality, and performance objectives.
  • Drive continuous improvement in transportation costs, service levels, delivery performance, operational efficiency, and overall business value.
  • Lead sourcing, procurement, and contract activities for transportation and logistics partners, including carrier and 3PL selection, equipment research, contracts, requisitions, and negotiations.
  • Develop and manage strategic relationships with carriers, 3PLs, and other logistics partners, including daily oversight of costs, performance, service levels, and issue resolution.
  • Monitor delivery performance and quality, ensuring timely communication, resolution of issues, and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Establish, implement, and monitor transportation KPIs, performance measures, and reporting to evaluate operational and financial results and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop and execute monthly and quarterly strategic and tactical transportation initiatives, ensuring daily, weekly, and monthly priorities and operational plans are effectively implemented.
  • Manage transportation budgets, forecasts, expenditures, and P&L performance; analyze variances and implement corrective actions to achieve or exceed financial and operational targets.
  • Analyze business, financial, operational, and performance data to identify trends, evaluate options, define objectives, and develop recommendations for management.
  • Evaluate and recommend changes related to transportation fees, tariffs, schedules, processes, technology, and other operational requirements to improve cost and service performance.
  • Lead process improvements and organizational change initiatives that strengthen transportation capabilities, efficiency, and results.
  • Lead, develop, and coach Management and Associates to build capabilities, improve performance, and support a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Communicate organizational values, strategies, objectives, priorities, and performance expectations while fostering a culture of openness, trust, respect, and collaboration.
  • Build effective partnerships across Transportation, stores, company headquarters, and other departments to address business needs, resolve issues, and support overall supply chain objectives.

Job Summary

The Sr. Manager of Domestic Transportation is responsible for leading and optimizing transportation operations to achieve cost, service, quality, and performance objectives. This role provides strategic and operational leadership across domestic transportation activities, including inbound and outbound shipping, carrier and 3PL management, dedicated transportation, and store and customer delivery. The Sr. Manager is responsible for transportation procurement and partner relationships, financial and P&L management, performance measurement, and continuous improvement. The role leads initiatives to reduce costs, improve service and operational efficiency, and implement effective transportation processes and technology. This position also leads and develops Management and Associates, establishes accountability for performance, and builds strong partnerships across the organization to support business and supply chain objectives.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $126,700 – $190,100 depending on location, knowledge, skills, education and experience. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition, we offer comprehensive and competitive benefits to Associates (and their families) such as medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term and long-term disability. Eligible Associates are able to enroll in our company’s 401k plan. Associates will accrue paid time off up to 236 hours per year (inclusive of PTO, floating holidays, and paid holidays). Paid sick time up to 80 hours per year unless otherwise required by law.
