Job summary

Coherent Corp. in Sherman, TX is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead process-control teams in a semiconductor environment, drive targets for yield and development, and provide technical leadership.

The role requires a PhD/Master/Bachelor with years of experience and a proven ability to mentor engineers, collaborate across functions, and represent the team in communications; on-site role with cleanroom work.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's in Physics/Chemistry/Materials Science or related field with 7+ years in semiconductors; or Master's with 5 years; or PhD with 3 years.
• 3+ years of engineering management required.
• Experience in semiconductor processing or optoelectronics devices preferred.
• Experience mentoring other engineers.

Job description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

• Supervising/facilitating engineers for process control, yield, process development, and meeting targets.
• Supervising/facilitating engineers for technical problem-solving.
• Providing general technical leadership.
• Set priorities and guide engineering activities in alignment with the goal of organization.
• Collaborates with other functional groups, including Operation, Equipment Engineering, Process Integration, Design, Supply Chain, etc. to achieve business unit/organizational objectives.
• Assess competence and evaluate performance of individual engineers and provide mentorship for professional development.
• Promote and facilitate cooperative teamwork.
• Serve as the representative of the team in internal/external communication.

Education & Experience

• A Bachelors' degree in Physics, Chemistry, Material Sciences or a closely related science or engineering major and at least 7 years of experience in the semiconductor industry or a Master degree and 5 years of industry experience or a PhD degree with 3 years of industry experience.
• 3+yrs of engineering management required.
• Semiconductor processing or optoelectronics device experience preferred.
• Experience of mentoring other engineers.

Skills

• Knowledge of general semiconductor wafer processing and engineering practices.
• Knowledge of multiple unit processes related to chip/eval operation.
• Knowledge of engineering statistics.
• Knowledge of semiconductor lasers or optoelectronic devices is preferred.
• Good written/oral communication skill.
• Fluency in MS Office suite as well as JMP or other statistics software.
• Project management skill
• Team management and development skill.

Working Conditions

• Work in a class 100/1000 clean room for extended periods
• Wear full cleanroom attire (smock, mask, etc.)
• Work with and/or around chemicals (such as solids and acids)

Physical Requirements

• Stand for up to 4 hours at a time
• Lift up to 16-30 Pounds
• Push/Pull up to 16-30 pounds
• Sit for up to 4 hours at a time
