Job summary

Coherent Corp. is seeking an experienced equipment engineering leader to drive safe operation and high uptime across wafer processing tools. You will coordinate with EES, process engineering, quality, and manufacturing to optimize tool availability and performance.

The role requires 10+ years in wafer equipment, deep hands‑on repair experience, and the ability to influence cross‑functional teams. Travel and 24/7 support are expected as part of the role.

Qualifications

  • 4 Year college degree or Military Electronics certification (will be considered based on years of semiconductor experience).
  • 10+ years experience working on wafer processing equipment or related experience.
  • Maintenance knowledge across Cleaving, Stacking/Unstacking, and multiple equipment listed in the ad.

Responsibilities

  • Drive safe, high‑quality equipment team performance.
  • Maintain communications between EES, process engineering, quality, test and manufacturing for tool availability.
  • Develop KPI and projects with process engineers to improve methods.
  • Provide data for decision making and maintain relationships with suppliers.
  • Lead technicians on complex tool repairs and provide hands‑on support.
  • Direct equipment installation and manage PM documents and spare parts.
  • Travel domestically and internationally as needed.
  • Support 24/7 factory operations and safety procedures.

Job description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Help drive a safe and high-quality equipment team.
  • Maintain effective communications between EES, process engineering, quality, test and manufacturing to ensure optimal tool availability.
  • Drive improvements on existing Equipment and Process roadblocks / mindsets using data driven material and methods.
  • Effectively influence and collaborate with colleagues, partners, and cross-functional teams beyond direct reporting structures.
  • Drive outcomes through influence rather than authority, leveraging trust, communication, and credibility across teams.
  • Own and develop KPI and Projects while collaborating with Process Engineers in order to improve existing and expand new development Processes.
  • Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs to ensure optimal equipment performance.
  • Develop new concepts of maintenance to eliminate or reduce major equipment failures and extended downtime.
  • Identify and correct chronic problem areas, using both on-site and off-site equipment expertise.
  • Provide necessary data for decision making while working / developing relationships with Equipment Suppliers / Vendors to improve tool capabilities.
  • Maintain a high level of expertise within the group by assisting in the training and development of EES technicians. Provide technical expertise and support of new equipment selection and tool sign‑off.
  • Direct and manage the installation of new equipment. Develop, edit and maintain PM documents.
  • Manage spare parts requirements for assigned tool sets.
  • Drive equipment issues to root cause and implement corrective and preventive actions. Assist EES technicians with PM's and repair as needed.
  • Lead technicians on complex tool repairs to include Action plan creation and hands‑on support until resolved.
  • Provide timely updates/communications on Equipment status to Management as well as Camstar System.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities with EES Manager and EES Technicians.
  • Give directions to Equipment Technicians regarding priorities on a day‑to‑day basis.
  • Participate in 5Y and 8D analysis as needed.
  • Required to travel both domestically and internationally if / when needed.
  • Carry company provided cell phones, maintaining communications to provide 24/7 factory support.
Education & Experience
  • Preferred Minimum Education
  • 4 Year college degree or Military Electronics certification (will be considered based on years of semiconductor experience)
  • Expected Minimum Years of Related Experience
    • 10+ years experience working on wafer processing equipment or related experience
  • Preferred: maintenance knowledgeable in multiple of the following equipment:
    • Cleaving, Stacking/Unstacking, Riber MBE 412 Passivation, E‑Beam Coating (PVD), and FiconTEC UMB Testing systems
    • Plasmatherm LAPECVD, Matrix Asher, Lam rainbow, Oxford ICP, KLA/SPTS ICP
Skills
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills and software programs such as:
    • Microsoft Word
    • Microsoft Excel
    • Microsoft Outlook
    • Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Must understand and have the ability to troubleshoot RF systems and understanding the fundamental theory of the components involved in the system.
  • Knowledge of how to read electronic schematics, mechanical blueprints, pneumatic diagrams, vacuum diagrams, flow charts, cause effect diagrams, and hydraulic system prints.
  • Understanding of the Etch, CVD, PVD, and Furnace processes.
  • Understanding of SPC theory and implementation.
  • Good understanding of vacuum theory, various vacuum pumps such as dry pumps, cryo pumps, turbo pumps, various types of vacuum sensors, pressure control devices, and MFCs.
  • Able to set up, operate, and interpret output of test equipment such as oscilloscopes, DMMs, RGAs, high voltage probes, pressure and temperature gauges, dial indicators, and RF meters.
  • Must be able to use a helium leak detector and RGA.
  • Problem solving; able to troubleshoot to root cause and analyze collected data for continuous improvement.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude.
  • Must be self‑motivated and able to organize daily work responsibilities with minimal management.
  • Strong communication skills with leadership Experience (fostering Servant Leadership Principles as a culture).
  • Work effectively with other members of Coherent Corp internally and externally.
  • Strong interpersonal, teaming, and problem‑solving skills.
