Job summary

Thermo Fisher Scientific in St. Louis is seeking a Senior Maintenance Technician to support critical manufacturing operations in a GMP environment. You will maintain and optimize facility systems including HVAC, water purification, compressed gases, and specialized equipment, troubleshooting and performing preventive maintenance.

You will collaborate with engineers and production teams to ensure regulatory compliance, mentor colleagues, and drive continuous improvement while adhering to safety.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 2-3 years maintenance in pharmaceutical/medical device GMP environment required.
• 4+ years maintenance in pharmaceutical/medical device GMP environment preferred.
• Experience with electrical/electronic troubleshooting including PLCs.
• Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS) and CMMS software.
• Strong mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic troubleshooting skills.
• Proficiency with preventive/corrective maintenance procedures and documentation.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication abilities.
• Ability to lift up to 50-70 lbs and work rotating shifts.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance on process and facility equipment.
• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, pneumatic, hydraulic, and automated systems.
• Diagnose equipment failures, identify root causes, and restore operation.
• Complete maintenance work orders and documentation in SAP CMMS.
• Follow cGMP, safety, environmental, quality and site procedures.
• Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Quality to minimize downtime.
• Identify recurring issues and contribute to root cause analysis and improvements.
• Provide technical guidance to technicians, contractors, and service providers.
• Maintain tools, parts, and work areas in inspection-ready condition.
• Communicate equipment risks and follow-up actions effectively.

DESCRIPTION:

Join our team as a Senior Maintenance Technician and make a meaningful impact in supporting critical manufacturing operations. In this role, you'll be responsible for maintaining and optimizing sophisticated facility systems and equipment in a GMP environment. You'll troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on critical systems including HVAC, water purification, compressed gases, and specialized manufacturing equipment. Key Responsibilities:

• Perform preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance on process, and facility equipment.

• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, pneumatic, hydraulic, and automated systems.

• Diagnose equipment failures, identify root causes, and restore equipment to safe and reliable operation.

• Complete maintenance work orders and documentation accurately in SAP CMMS system.

• Follow cGMP, safety, environmental, quality, and site procedures when performing all maintenance activities.

• Partner with Operations, Engineering, Quality, and other site functions to minimize downtime and maintain manufacturing readiness.

• Identify recurring equipment issues and contribute to root cause analysis, preventive maintenance optimization, and continuous improvement efforts.

• Provide technical support and guidance to other technicians, contractors, and service providers as needed.

• Maintain tools, parts, and work areas in a safe, organized, and inspection-ready condition.

• Communicate equipment risks, deficiencies, and follow-up actions in a timely and effective manner.

• Perform additional duties as assigned based on site and business needs.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Education: Highschool diploma or GED is required
• Minimum 2-3 years maintenance experience in pharmaceutical/medical device GMP environment, required
• Minimum 4 years maintenance experience in pharmaceutical/medical device GMP environment, preferred
• Preferred Fields of Study: Technical
• Facilities/Maintenance certification or trade certification preferred
• Strong electrical/electronic troubleshooting skills including PLC systems and controls
• Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS) and computerized maintenance management systems
• Demonstrated proficiency in mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
• Proficiency in preventive/corrective maintenance procedures and documentation
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• Experience with hazardous materials handling and safety procedures
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
• Proficiency with Windows-based computer systems
• Physical ability to lift up to 50-70 lbs
• Flexibility to work rotating shifts, weekends, and participate in on-call rotation
• Self-motivated with ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with teams
• Strong commitment to safety protocols and procedures
• Experience mentoring and training others preferred
