Job summary

Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department is seeking a Sr Maintenance and Operations Technician to assist with preventative maintenance of facilities and park amenities, including carpentry, landscaping, and light construction in the Central Region (Uptown Charlotte). This full-time role follows daytime hours with weekend needs based on demand.

The ideal candidate has at least 2 years of related experience and a High School diploma; a valid NC/SC driver’s license is required, with CDL

Qualifications

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in maintenance or a related area.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid North Carolina or South Carolina driver's license and county driving privileges; CDL may be required depending on area.

Responsibilities

  • Perform setup, breakdown and cleaning during events.
  • Perform routine cleaning of restrooms and rental facilities.
  • Remove debris, mow and trim ballfields, and assist in landscaping and construction tasks.
  • Layout measurements and assist in field maintenance; operate power equipment as needed.
  • Open park gates, remove trash, and support repair technicians.

Position Summary

Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is adding a Sr Maintenance and Operations Technician to our team! This position will assist with preventative maintenance duties of our facility and park amenities, carpentry projects, general grounds keeping, and landscaping in our Central Region, which encompasses the Uptown Charlotte area. The incumbent may also participate in playground equipment installations. The selected candidate will be a key member of our team in ensuring our parks remain premier venues for our community and visitors. This full time position will work daytime hours during the week, and weekends only as needed based on business demands.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Equipment operations experience
  • Landscaping and/or groundskeeping experience highly preferred
Essential Functions
  • Perform setup, breakdown and cleaning during events
  • Perform routine and non-routine cleaning services to restrooms and rental facilities
  • Remove limbs and debris; blows leaves off sidewalks and greenways; clears mud and water from greenway tunnels after storms, and mow and trim ballfields
  • Assist in manual labor such as brick laying, pipe laying, painting, carpentry and other construction tasks
  • Layout measurements and line ballfields and assist in performing field maintenance
  • Operate power mowers, chainsaws, brush cutter, edger and clippers, power washers, ATVs, litter vacuum, and other equipment used in facility maintenance, landscaping, roadside maintenance, and right of way cleaning.
  • Open park gates and removes trash
  • Assist repair technicians in duties
  • May operate light equipment such as utility vehicles, tractors, mowers and dump trucks
  • May serve as a lead on a small work crew, community service workers, volunteers and/or part-time staff
  • May receive, sort, and package materials
Minimum Qualifications

Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of experience related to area of assignment

Licenses/Certifications

Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver’s License and County Driving Privileges; Depending on the area of assignment, may require a Class A or B CDL with one or more of the following endorsements, H(Hazardous Materials), N(Tank Vehicle), P (Passenger Transport), S (School Bus/Passenger Transport), T (Double/Triples), or X (Tanker and hazardous Materials).

  • Light equipment used in maintenance, grounds keeping, and construction
