Job description

Build it. Test it. Improve it. Make an impact.

Love lasers? Even better if you love figuring out what they can do next.

Rose Medical is looking for an experienced Senior Laser Engineer to join our Engineering team in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

This isn’t a role where you’ll spend your entire day behind a desk reviewing someone else’s work. We’re looking for someone who enjoys getting hands‑on—developing processes, solving challenging technical problems, experimenting with new technology, designing tooling, working with equipment, and turning an idea or prototype into a robust manufacturing process.

At Rose Medical, we manufacture components and assemblies for the medical device industry, which means the work you do here matters. You’ll help develop and optimize laser welding, cutting, marking, and ablation processes used to manufacture highly precise medical‑device components.

What You’ll Get to Work On

This role gives you the opportunity to work across an impressive laser toolbox—including fiber, Nd:YAG, femtosecond, and 355 nm UV laser technologies—supporting both R&D and production.

You’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Develop something new. Take laser processes from feasibility and prototype development through scale‑up, validation, and production.
  • Solve the hard problems. Troubleshoot equipment and processes, lead root‑cause investigations, and improve uptime, yield, and process capability.
  • Experiment. Use DOE, SPC, and structured experimentation to establish reliable, repeatable process windows.
  • Design and build. Develop tooling and fixtures, create motion paths, and work with G‑code and machine‑specific programming.
  • Explore new technology. Evaluate new lasers, equipment, suppliers, automation opportunities, and emerging technologies—and help determine where Rose should invest next.
  • Work directly with customers. Bring your technical expertise into feasibility studies, technical reviews, quotations, product launches, and design‑for‑manufacturability conversations.
  • See your work become real. Partner with Quality, Manufacturing, R&D, Sales, and Operations to move processes from an idea to validated, scalable manufacturing.
Who We’re Looking For

You’re probably a great fit if you're the kind of engineer who sees a difficult technical problem and thinks, “I want to figure that out.”

We’re looking for someone who brings a strong technical foundation along with curiosity, initiative, and the ability to work well with people at every level of the organization.

Ideally, you’ll bring a bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or a related technical field, along with 5–10 years of progressively responsible laser‑processing and/or precision‑manufacturing experience. Experience in medical device or another highly regulated industry is especially valuable.

Knowledge of metallurgy and materials such as stainless steel, nitinol, titanium, and platinum, optical systems, laser safety, CAD, machining, electronics, blueprint reading, and thermoplastics will help you hit the ground running.

Why Rose Medical?

We’re big enough to work on complex, cutting‑edge medical‑device manufacturing challenges—but small enough that your ideas, expertise, and contributions are visible.

Our engineers aren't tucked away in a silo. They work alongside manufacturing, quality, technicians, operators, customers, and other engineers to solve problems and bring new ideas to life.

We’re looking for someone who wants more than another engineering job. We want someone who enjoys building, experimenting, problem‑solving, collaborating, and making things better.

What We Offer

At Rose Medical, we believe our people are our strength—and we back that up with a competitive, supportive benefits package designed to support you both at work and outside of it.

  • Competitive compensation – Salary based on experience and qualifications
  • Quarterly bonus program – Everyone shares in Rose’s success!
  • Paid time off and holidays – A generous package to support work‑life balance, with paid holidays available immediately
  • Comprehensive benefits after 30 days, including medical coverage with diabetic supplies covered at 100%, dental coverage with orthodontics for children and adults, vision coverage, a 401(k) with 4% company match, and disability and life insurance options
  • Tuition reimbursement program – Supporting continued professional growth and development
  • Childcare discount program – Helping support working parents with access to reduced childcare costs
