Job summary

Johnson Service Group (JSG) seeks a Senior Instrumentation Designer in Birmingham, AL for a long-term contract. The role focuses on developing instrumentation systems for simple-cycle gas turbine plants supporting data centers, with remote options available.

The Instrumentation Designer III will compile complete construction packages for power generation islands and assist during startup and project closeout, in a collaborative EPC environment.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Engineering Technology or CAD is required.
• Minimum of 7 years in instrumentation drafting and design, EPC/power preferred.
• Familiarity with NEC and industry drafting standards is required.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Revit, Navisworks, and ElecDes is expected.

Responsibilities

• Interpret project scope, specifications, and design criteria.
• Produce installation details, loop sheets, P&IDs and control layouts.
• Create instrumentation docs from vendor drawings with accuracy.
• Communicate scope/design changes promptly and clearly.
• Provide on-site support during startup and construction phases.
• Collaborate with other disciplines for coordinated design.
• Assist in cost estimation and material take-offs; estimate task durations.

Job Summary

The Instrumentation Designer III is responsible for design & development of instrumentation systems for power generation and distribution projects.

The designer will contribute to the development of complete construction packages for power generation islands supporting data center operations.

Requirements

• Associate degree in Engineering Technology or Computer-Aided Drafting.
• Minimum of 7 years of relevant industrial experience in instrumentation drafting and design, preferably in the EPC and power sector.
• Familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NEC).
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Revit, Navisworks, and ElecDes.
• Strong understanding of instrumentation materials and construction practices.
• Knowledge of industry drafting standards.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Key Responsibilitie
