Job summary

Adventist Health Portland is seeking an Imaging Assistant to safely transport patients to and from the diagnostic imaging department, assist with transfers from wheelchairs to exam tables, and support patient comfort throughout the process.

You will verify orders, ensure lab values are within safe limits for exams, assist with preparing films, coordinate handoffs between imaging and nursing staff, and uphold HIPAA and confidentiality standards.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree or equivalent preferred.
  • Two years of healthcare customer service preferred.
  • Five years as an Imaging Assistant preferred.

Job description

Job Summary

Safely transports patients to and from the diagnostic imaging department, ensuring patient support systems are in place at all times. Reports any changes in patient condition during the process to nurses and/or technologists. Assists with managing the imaging department's patient flow.

Job Requirements
  • High School Education/GED or equivalent: Required
  • Associate’s/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Preferred
  • Two years' customer service experience in a healthcare setting: Preferred
  • Five years' experience as an Imaging Assistant: Preferred
Facility Specific License/Certifications
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: Required
Essential Functions
  • Safely transports patients (with and without oxygen, as appropriate) between their rooms and the diagnostic imaging department. Assists patients from wheelchair to exam table, stretcher or toilet and back as needed. Provides direct patient care as directed by technologists or radiologists, including starting/flushing appropriate IV access on patients as needed.
  • Verifies orders for exams to be performed and confirms patient lab work is within safe limits for exam to be performed. Processes paperwork and develops and assembles films in preparation for reading. Assists the imaging clerical staff as needed. Adheres to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other patient confidentiality guidelines and regulations.
  • Serves as a liaison between technologists and unit nursing staff. Performs all duties related to the hand off of care between the imaging department and hospital unit, recognizing and reporting abnormal, emergent or unusual signs and symptoms based on patient population and common diagnoses (change in vital signs, intake, output, patient complaints, etc.).
  • Assists with managing the imaging department's patient flow.
  • Sets up procedural trays using sterile techniques and prepares contrast injectors for exams. Keeps stretchers and wheelchairs clean and neatly stored, blanket warmers and linens stocked, exam rooms tidy and equipment clean.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Pay

Estimated base pay: $17.68 to $26.51 per hour. Additional individual compensation may be available through differentials, extra shift incentives, bonuses, etc.
