Job summary

Cspeed IO, a Palo Alto-based stealth startup, seeks a Senior Laser Design Engineer to lead device design and simulation of a high-density III-V laser array for AI infrastructure. You will own active region, waveguide, and EAM designs in a fabless setting, interfacing with foundries to ensure manufacturability and yield across production volumes.

The role requires deep device physics knowledge, hands-on experience with production-ready designs, and proficiency with advanced simulation tools.

Qualifications

• Deep understanding of III-V laser device physics with production experience.
• Experience simulating laser photonic structures for foundry use.
• Knowledge of DFB/DBR design trade-offs for production.
• Proficiency with device simulation tools and scripting.

Responsibilities

• Design active region MQW structures for laser, SOA, and EAM applications.
• Optimize waveguide geometry, confinement, and cavity parameters.
• Balance power, threshold, and SMSR across temperature ranges.
• Design EAM structures and assess chirp and driver compatibility.
• Interface with epitaxy foundries to specify growth and review results.
• Lead communication of results through reports and reviews.
