Job Description Drive our Zero Harm initiatives across North America!
The Sr. Manager of Environmental, Occupational Health and Safety will be key in the execution and coordination of due diligences in the field of environmental protection and occupational health and safety programs focusing on Brambles North America and at various Brambles sites as assigned. This position is responsible to oversee the development and support of programs with and for the North America region operational business groups (Canada, and U.S.). with the goal of zero injuries to people and zero negative impact to the environment.
Key Responsibilities May Include:
- Deliver strategic objectives by leading, mentoring, and developing a team of HSE specialists, ensuring consistent delivery of organizational safety and other related objectives and building a high-performing team.
- Ensure compliance with safety management systems, environmental legislation, and risk management processes, serving as a key advisor on regulatory and industry standards.
- Participate in working groups and steerco’s to represent the regional direction.
- Oversee and manage all HSE reporting requirements, providing regular updates to regional leadership, Brambles, and external bodies.
- Engage in risk assessments to identify safety, security, business interruption and environmental risks, developing and executing plans to mitigate those risks.
- Act as the subject matter expert in human and organizational performance, promoting and leading training initiatives and facilitating learning teams at the site level.
- Collaborate with operational leaders to share and implement good practices, driving continuous improvement in HSE performance across operations and the broader business.
- Coach and guide managers, leaders, and safety professionals on safety leadership, promoting a culture of safety at all levels of the business.
Scope: North America 100 Locations (Plants, Offices, etc.) 7.4 M Exposure Hours & leads a remote team across the region
Travel Requirements: 50%
Location: Remote US, must be located near a major airport
Major/Key Accountabilities
Lead the Regional HSE team to accomplish the following:
- Develop and implement strategy for North America designed to reduce injuries in all Brambles-operated sites and for all CHEP and Brambles field-based employees in North America.
- Lead initiatives for equipment guarding standards, pedestrian segregation standards and the engineering of safer tools and machines.
- Lead initiatives for identification and prioritization for risk through work station risk assessments.
- Serve as mentor and trainer for Operation Directors and VPs and other key supply chain leaders in safety.
- Assist sites in implementing a robust Safety Management System and provide support for corrective actions identified during internal and or external audits.
- Apply Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) principals through facilitation of the development and training of Learning Teams at the site level in support of the Safety Differently strategy.
- Generate and publish safety performance reports as necessary.
Experience & Qualifications
- Have a bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college in a related subject or equivalent HSE experience
- Have at least 10-12 years' experience in health, safety & environment management and management of people
- Detailed knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental regulations in North America.
- Highly skilled in the use of the iCare EHS system (or similar), Skilled communicator, both oral and written, and able to present effectively at all levels in the organization
- Demonstrate experience of leading, mentoring and motivating large teams within a global matrix environment
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems; lead programs / projects, and document, plan, market, and execute programs.
- Established project management skills as related to HSE programs
- Desired: Be certified in one or more relevant HSE and lead auditor certifications
- Desired: Experienced managing engineering budgets and capex projects
- Desired: HOP Experience/Champion
