Job summary

Henry Ford Health in Detroit seeks an experienced Histology Technologist to lead laboratory operations across multiple disciplines and prepare specimens for histological examination using both manual techniques and modern instruments.

You will teach routine and advanced techniques to teammates, ensure strict quality control, and contribute to R&D projects while helping onboard new staff in a CAP-accredited histology lab.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with biochemistry and chemistry course work.
  • ASCP HTL certification required.
  • Minimum three years of progressive histology lab experience in CAP-accredited setting.

Responsibilities

  • Lead laboratory operations across multiple histology disciplines with minimal supervision.
  • Prepare tissue samples, body fluids, and cells for histology using manual and instrument-based methods.
  • Teach routine and specialized lab techniques to teammates.
  • Ensure standard work practices and quality control across the lab.
  • Participate in applied research and development projects and support onboarding.

Job Description

Shift: Afternoons

Status: 40 hours per week

Ready to make an impact in the lab? Here's what you'll be doing:

  • Lead the charge on laboratory operations across multiple technical disciplines with confidence and minimal supervision—you'll be the go-to expert!
  • Master the art of routine and complex analytic procedures, transforming human tissue samples, body fluids, and cultured cells into perfectly prepared specimens for histological examination using both manual techniques and cutting‑edge laboratory instruments
  • Share your expertise by teaching routine and specialized laboratory techniques to your teammates—because great knowledge is meant to be shared!
  • Champion quality by ensuring standard work practices are consistently followed across the lab
  • Get creative by participating in applied research and development projects that push the boundaries of what's possible
  • Build the future by getting involved in onboarding new team members, assessing competencies, and driving quality improvement initiatives that make a real difference
Qualifications
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university with a combination of at least 30 semester hours of biology and chemistry required.
  • Three (3) years of experience with progressive responsibility in a CAP accredited histology laboratory setting required.
  • Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) as a Histology Technologist (HTL) required.
  • For Sr. Histotechnologist in Immunohistochemistry, Qualification in Immunohistochemistry (QIHC) by ASCP preferred.
