Job summary

Trinity Health Of New England's Saint Francis Hospital is seeking a Senior Histotechnologist to support surgical and autopsy specimen preparation for microscopic examination. You will ensure quality, accuracy, and timely diagnostic information in a fast-paced lab, while adhering to CLIA/CAP standards.

Key duties include embedding, staining, IHC, staff training, and development of departmental SOPs. A BS with biology/chemistry and NAACLS histotech training are required, with 5+ years HTL ASCP

Qualifications

  • BS degree with biology and chemistry coursework and NAACLS histotech program.
  • At least 5 years of HTL ASCP experience; QIHC by ASCP.
  • Experience with fixation, microtomy, processing, staining, and IHC optimization/validation.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, process, embed, section, stain and coverslip tissue specimens for microscopy.
  • Accession, label and document all tissue samples and testing activities.
  • Perform routine histology, special stains and IHC procedures.
  • Troubleshoot staining quality, instruments and workflow; document actions.
  • Train and mentor staff and students; assist with competency assessments.

Employment Type: Full time Shift: Day Shift Description: Senior Histotechnologist – Make a Difference Behind Every Diagnosis Join our dedicated laboratory team as a Senior Histotechnologist, where your expertise plays a critical role in patient care. Working in a fast-paced laboratory environment, you'll apply your technical expertise, attention to detail, and knowledge of departmental procedures to support accurate diagnoses and outstanding patient care. In this highly skilled position, you will be responsible for the preparation of surgical and autopsy specimens for microscopic examination by the Pathologist, ensuring the highest standards of quality, accuracy, and efficiency. As a trusted laboratory professional, you will maintain a thorough working knowledge of departmental standard operating procedures while contributing to the delivery of timely and accurate diagnostic information that supports exceptional patient outcomes.

What You Will Do:
  • Prepare, process, embed, section, stain, and coverslip tissue specimens for microscopic examination.
  • Accession, label, and maintain accurate documentation for all tissue samples and testing activities.
  • Perform routine histology, special stains, and immunohistochemistry (IHC) procedures.
  • Troubleshoot staining quality, instrumentation, and workflow issues; document corrective actions.
  • Support validation and implementation of new histology and IHC technologies.
  • Train and mentor staff and students while assisting with competency assessments.
  • Maintain tissue banks, reagents, and laboratory supplies needed for testing.
  • Adhere to quality assurance, quality control, safety, and regulatory standards, including CLIA and CAP requirements.
  • Assist with the development, review, and revision of departmental policies and procedures.
  • Serve as a technical resource and contribute to a clean, organized, and efficient laboratory environment.
Minimum Requirements:
  • BS degree from accredited college/university with a combination of 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both) AND successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician or Histotechnology program.
  • Must have at least 5 years of experience as a Histotechnologist HTL ASCP required; Qualification in IHC (QIHC) by ASCP
  • Must have experience in the following areas: Fixation, Microtomy, Processing, Staining, IHC staining, IHC optimization and validation.

Pay Range: $33.10 - $52.95 per hour Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
