PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Perform the duties of handling hazardous materials/wastes to receive, categorize, store, distribute and ship by ensuring compliance with various environmental rules and regulations.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:
Pickup truck, pallet jack, HEPA vacuum cleaner, pumps, hoses, sampling kit, drum tipper, drum crusher, forklift, protective clothing, MSDS’s.
MATERIAL:
Hazardous materials/wastes, neutralization chemicals, absorbent, shipping and packaging materials, sample jars, drums, drum labels, hazardous waste manifests.
WORKING PROCEDURE:
Receive general work assignment and instructions from the Environmental Affairs Manager and other environmental professionals.
Must be trained and certified in proper handling and mixing of chemicals, respirator training/fit test, hazardous waste management, waste handling and awareness training, ERT (Emergency Response Team) and DOT HM-181 training for shipment of hazardous materials.
Understand and use the various environmental regulations and rules of categorization to determine the priority of handling and the proper processing/handling of the materials waste.
Maintain waste containers by properly storing and completing necessary documentation (waste manifest and labeling) for inspections or shipments.
Ensure proper categorization for incoming hazardous materials to avoid unsafe mixtures or costly disposal.
Identify various hazardous materials/waste streams and match the materials to a predetermined material description.
Conduct environmental techs work skills when that employee is absent, ill, medical leave or vacation.

Basic Qualifications:
Minimum 3 years of experience handling hazardous materials, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
Existing knowledge of EPA and OSHA regulations related to hazardous waste.
HAZWOPER (Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response) 40-hour certification or willingness to obtain immediately.
Knowledge of proper hazardous waste handling, storage, and disposal procedures.
Familiarity with Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and hazardous communication standards.
Basic computer skills for documentation and data entry in compliance software.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and climb frequently and lift move up to 35 pounds throughout the workday.
United States Citizenship and valid Driver’s license.
High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Completion of HAZWOPER (Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response) 40-hour certification.
Completion of DOT HAZMAT certification.
Prior experience with waste segregation, packaging, and shipment preparation.
