Job Overview

As an Amazon Robotics Sensor Technology Leader, you will develop innovative hardware designs for our robotic systems and improve existing hardware to optimize performance and enhance customer experience. The ideal candidate has experience in designing and analyzing camera systems, enjoys analytical problem solving, and possesses practical knowledge of high-volume manufacturing methods. This role involves leading the development of complex camera, compute, and machine vision modules, reporting directly to the Hardware Development Engineering Manager.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead an interdisciplinary team from concept to production, including requirements, design, prototyping, validation, and testing.
  • Support architecture development for complex camera, compute, or machine vision modules.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and customers on new product introduction and technology development.
  • Coordinate with Operations, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, and vendors for smooth product launches and sustainment.
  • Write functional specifications, verification plans, and test procedures.
  • Own the full engineering lifecycle from analysis to implementation.
  • Design and support hardware solutions, develop requirements, and follow hardware development best practices.
  • Provide expertise and mentorship in sensing technologies, and advise stakeholders on sensor strategy and roadmap.
Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS/MS in Electrical, Mechanical, or Optical Engineering (or similar).
  • 8+ years in mechanical, electrical, and system-level design.
  • Understanding of hardware development principles.
  • Experience leading hardware design in ambiguous problem spaces with long-term impact.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and participating in hiring processes.
  • Leadership in multidisciplinary teams and experience working with third-party providers.
  • Expertise in sensing and compute technologies, CAD, analytical tools, and hardware design best practices.
  • Experience designing complex hardware, including machine vision and compute products.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Electrical, Mechanical, or Optical Engineering.
  • Experience with sensor modalities like ToF, stereo, RGB, mmWave radar, LiDAR.
  • Knowledge of IEC safety standards and safety-rated systems.
  • Proficiency with Matlab, PSPICE, Zemax, or similar tools.
