Job Overview
As an Amazon Robotics Sensor Technology Leader, you will develop innovative hardware designs for our emerging robotic systems and improve existing hardware to optimize performance and enhance customer experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead an interdisciplinary team to execute product designs from concept to production, including requirements, specifications, design, prototyping, validation, and testing.
- Support architecture development for complex camera, compute, or machine vision modules.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and customers on new product introduction or technology development.
- Coordinate with Operations, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality teams, and vendors for product launch and sustainment.
- Write functional specifications, design verification plans, and test procedures.
- Own engineering analysis and cradle-to-grave project management.
- Design and support hardware solutions, develop requirements, and follow hardware development best practices.
- Provide expertise in sensing technologies and act as a trusted technical leader.
- Contribute to sensor strategy and roadmap development.
- Mentor engineering team members.
Basic Qualifications
- BS/MS in Electrical, Mechanical, Optical Engineering or similar.
- 8+ years of experience in mechanical, electrical, and system-level design.
- Strong understanding of hardware development principles.
- Experience leading hardware design in ambiguous problem spaces.
- Experience with recruiting, mentoring, and developing engineers.
- Leadership in multidisciplinary teams and working with third-party service providers.
- Expertise in sensing and compute technologies, CAD, and analytical tools.
- Design experience with complex hardware including machine vision and compute modules.
- Knowledge of DFX design practices and system interfacing.
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD in related fields.
- Experience with sensor modalities like LiDAR, stereo, RGB, radar.
- Design for IEC standards and safety-rated systems.
- Experience troubleshooting EMI/EMC issues, proficiency in Matlab and PSPICE.
