Job summary

Blue Origin LLC in Huntsville, AL seeks a Sr. GSE Design and Analysis Engineer for Blue National Security. You will design tooling, fixtures, and automated equipment for space hardware, collaborate across flight, manufacturing, and integration teams, and apply FEM/structural analysis to assure safety and reliability.

Please bring 5+ years of tooling design experience, CAD proficiency (Creo), and strong knowledge of ASME Y14.5. Travel ~10% and Top Secret clearance are preferred.

• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years designing, building, and commissioning tooling or fixtures for manufacturing.

Passion for our mission and vision is required!**Special Mentions:*** Travel for this role is estimated to be 10% of the time.**Responsibilities include but are not limited to:*** Design production, development, test, integration, and advanced manufacturing tooling and equipment for the Blue National Security business unit.* Streamline integration, payload integration, and mission-unique designs.* Capable of integrating concepts and principles of mechanical design and analysis of several projects in a fast-paced environment -- projects will vary in size and scale.* Ability to interpret and apply sound design and drafting standards (ASME Y14.5) when creating drawings.* Handle a wide range of technical design challenges related to all types of assembly fixtures, material handlers, rotisseries, test fixtures, structural weldments, environmental chambers, and custom machines.* Close collaboration with flight hardware designers, manufacturing engineers, and integration engineering to achieve the best possible cradle-to-grave metrics (safety, cost, quality, cycle time, delivery, reliability, life, and maintenance/refurbishment).* Develop statements of work for design-build contracts which requires close collaboration with stakeholders to define requirements.* Support projects, including vendor selection, fabrication, inspection, equipment installation, proof testing, and commissioning of custom tooling.* Support scheduling and budget inputs to ensure project completion and/or for estimating for future GSE & Tooling needs.**Minimum Qualifications:*** B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent work experience.* 5+ years’ experience with design, build, and commissioning of tooling, fixtures, custom machines, or design support equipment for manufacturing, assembly, and test.* Experience with FEM and complex structural analysis in addition to the ability to perform hand calculations including the creation of free body diagrams.* Proven experience with CAD-based design software for modeling and drafting.* Basic understanding of common manufacturing materials, GD&T, and tolerance/stack-up analysis.**Preferred Qualifications:*** Active Top Secret clearance.* Strong expertise in design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) including experience taking products from development design to rate production.* Proven understanding of common manufacturing processes and machines such as CNC machining, manual mills and lathes, welding, sheet-metal bending, lifting/rigging, assembly, inspection, etc.* Familiarity with industry standards, such as ASME BTH-1, aluminum design manual, and AISC.* Experience with custom machine design: motors, actuators, linear rails/actuators, pneumatics, hydraulics, bearings, etc.* Experience with Creo and Windchill CAD/PDM systems.* Experience with Analysis packages such as: ANSYS Workbench, FEMAP Pre/Post processing, NASTRAN Solver, NX Advance Simulation, etc.*Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the requisition is closed.***Culture Statement**Don’t meet all desired requirements?
