Job summary

Blue Origin LLC is seeking a structural analysis engineer to support the New Glenn program. You will perform strength assessments, create free body diagrams, and run FEM analyses on tooling and ground support equipment, releasing work through Windchill PDM.

You will mentor designers, lead conceptual and detailed analyses, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize design for risk, cost, and performance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering with 5–8 years of experience analyzing ground support equipment or tooling
  • Experience creating and validating FEMs using Ansys or NX Simulation with Nastran
  • Proficiency in generating free-body diagrams to calculate internal loads and reactions
  • Experience with welding, fixtures, and weldments in structural analyses
  • Familiarity with structural codes such as AISC-360, ASME B30/31, ASME BTH-1

Responsibilities

  • Perform strength assessments using classical analysis methods and FEM for tooling and GSE
  • Document and review stress analyses to support release of engineering drawings
  • Mentor tooling designers on best practices in stress, stability, and fracture analysis
  • Lead conceptual and detailed analyses for manufacture and assembly of structural components
  • Act as technical lead for vendor tooling projects

Passion for our mission and vision is required!Responsibilities include but are not limited to:Perform strength assessments utilizing both classical analysis techniques and finite element analysis (FEA) for tooling and ground support equipment (GSE)Document and review stress analyses to facilitate the release of engineering drawings and related documentationMentor tooling designers on best practices in stress, stability, and fracture analysisProvide technical guidance on design concepts, including risk, cost, and performance trade-offsSupport cross-functional teams with input for design development, analysis, and trade studiesLead conceptual and detailed analysis of tooling and equipment for the manufacture and assembly of structural components, mechanical/actuated systems, and hydraulic and fluid systemsServe as the technical point of contact and responsible party for vendor-developed tooling projectsMinimum QualificationsBachelor’s degree in engineering (minimum), with 5-8 years of experience analyzing ground support equipment (GSE) or tooling in the automotive, aerospace or similar industryExperience creating and validating finite element models (FEMs) using Ansys or NX Simulation with NastranProven Experience of FEA using 1D, 2D & 3D elements with models containing weldments, machined parts, and weldmentsProficiency in generating free-body diagrams to calculate internal loads and reaction forces, and in simplifying and idealizing structural problems of varying complexityExtensive experience analyzing steel and aluminum tooling, including machining fixtures and weldments using hand calculationsProficiency in performing bolted joint hand calculations (bolt preload, joint stiffness, shear-tension interaction, insert pull-out, etc.)Proficiency in performing welded joint hand calculations (required size, length, effective throat, direct and resultant stress, and failure modesProficiency in performing modal analysis on vibration fixture design.Demonstrated ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusionFamiliarity with applicable structural codes (AISC-360, ASME B30 & 31, ASME BTH-1, etc.)Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.Preferred QualificationsProfessional Engineer (PE) licensureProficiency with Creo and/or Siemens NX softwareStrong customer focus and excellent communication skillsDemonstrated track record of successful project deliveryAbility to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teamsSelf-motivated with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneouslyAbility to clearly communicate analytical findings to both technical and non-technical audiencesBase Pay Range for:WA applicants is $81,313.00 - $113,837.85Other site ranges may differCulture StatementDon’t meet all desired requirements?
