Job summary

DHL eCommerce in Weston, FL is seeking a Sr. Functional Controller to create visibility on and analyze the operational and financial performance of its functions, and to provide recommendations to leadership.

You will partner with local finance teams to ensure accurate information, develop management reports, monitor goals, and support strategic initiatives. This role emphasizes data-driven decision making and process improvements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, finance, accounting, business or related field.
  • Master’s degree in engineering, finance, business or related field is a plus.
  • 10+ years of related work experience.
  • 5+ years of work experience in Logistics is a plus.
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting and financial principles is required.
  • Strong Excel skills are required.
  • Proficiency with SAP, PowerBI, SQL/Python is a plus.
  • Proficiency with PowerBI is a plus.
  • Proficiency with SQL/Python is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Report, analyze, and explain operational and financial information for assigned function(s).
  • Design and implement reports to enhance visibility and accuracy.
  • Act as a business partner for decision making, supporting strategy and budgeting.
  • Provide inputs for overall financial planning and functional budgets.
  • Develop and monitor cost control measures for the function(s).
  • Coordinate information needs with other Finance departments.
  • Promote financial awareness and train colleagues.
  • Gatekeeper for major spend categories and purchases per approval matrix.
  • Conduct business case analyses on investments and present to Finance leadership.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams and ad-hoc projects.
  • Support audit-related topics and IT data integrity.
  • Support audit-related topics across Finance teams.
  • Collaborate with IT to ensure data integrity.
  • Develop/update SOPs and internal controls for the function.
  • Ensure compliance of processes and procedures within scope.
  • Support digitalization and automation of reports and processes.

SUMMARY:

The Sr. Functional Controller will create visibility on and analyze the operational and financial performance of its assigned function(s), as well as provide recommendations to the management team to enhance overall performance. The Sr. Functional Controller will collaborate with local internal functions to ensure transparency and accuracy of information, develop/enhance management reports, monitor/control achievement of financial goals, support decision-making, implement key projects/initiatives, and foster financial awareness,

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Responsible for reporting, analyzing, and explaining operational and financial information (e.g. volume, revenue, costs, expenses, investments) for assigned function(s).
  • Design and implement methodologies and management reports to enhance operational and financial performance visibility and accuracy.
  • Act as a business partner for assigned function(s), supporting informed and data-driven decision making, identifying/defining needs and strategies to enhance financial performance, and supporting target setting for overall planning processes.
  • Responsible for providing functional inputs for overall financial planning (e.g. budget, forecast, strategic plan, etc.) and for supporting assigned function(s) in the development of functional budgets.
  • Develop and monitor cost control/optimization measures for assigned function(s).
  • Coordinate information/action needs regarding its assigned function(s) with other departments in Finance.
  • Promote financial awareness within the assigned function(s), including coaching and training of colleagues.
  • Act as gatekeeper for its assigned function(s) business’ major spend categories, including the review and approval/rejection of purchases in alignment with the company’s approval matrix.
  • Conduct business case analyses on investment proposals and make recommendations to Finance leadership.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams through providing a financial perspective.
  • Participate/lead ad-hoc financial projects/initiatives.
  • Provide support to other Finance teams and assigned function(s) in audit-related topics.
  • Collaborate with assigned function(s) and with the IT department to ensure data integrity.
  • Implement and further develop operational processes and internal controls for the function(s) in scope, including the development/update of standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Ensure compliance of processes and procedures related to its scope of work.
  • Support overall digitalization and automation of processes/reports related to its scope of work.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, finance, accounting, business or related field required
  • Master’s degree in engineering, finance, business or related field is a plus
  • 10+ years of related work experience
  • 5+ years of work experience in Logistics is a plus
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting and financial principles is required
  • Strong Excel skills are required
  • Proficiency with SAP is a plus
  • Proficiency with PowerBI is a plus
  • Proficiency with SQL/Python is a plus
REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS:
  • Demonstrated effectiveness at reading, understanding, and impacting financial and operational information.
  • Demonstrated experience in independently building financial and operational models and reporting structures from the ground up.
  • Demonstrated strong business acumen and data-driven decision making.
  • Ability to independently engage stakeholders in identifying and resolving complex business problems in a timely manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills, with the ability to develop relationships across all levels in organization including regular communication with senior business leaders and Executive Committee members.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in “managing by influence” those of higher title and in different functional groups.
  • Strong problem solving and organization skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong project management skills in development, coordination and management of project plans.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Physical demands are consistent with a professional office setting.
  • Regular sitting at workstation for 25 – 75% of the work shift.
  • Minimum Travel required (<10%).
  • Position requires regular in-person presence (office located in Weston, FL)
