Individual contributor responsible for providing a high level of expertise in systems analysis and design, application development and/or integration, and testing of complex systems applications to support business needs. Provides guidance to others, both informally and by leading teams on projects and/or programs. The focus of this position will be leading, architecting, designing, developing, or integrating business applications. Preference given to experience in AI/ML and GenAI application development, as well as metrics and visual data analytics.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Evaluates complex client area requirements and processes, designs or prepares application system specifications, and develops, tests, and implements efficient and cost-effective application solutions. Includes issue resolution and ongoing system maintenance.

2. May lead the integration of vendor applications and consulting resources with existing applications and resources. May hold the development lead or sub-lead role on a project and/or program.

3. Acts as a technical consultant to programming staff and/or business units, mentoring staff in all phases of program development, testing, and implementation. Participates in instructing, directing, and reviewing the design or application work of others.

4. Coordinates activities of the section with the client area and other IT areas (e.g., infrastructure, testing, solutions).

5. Researches and evaluates new, alternative solutions or architectures, recommending the most efficient and cost-effective options for system design, including cost estimation as necessary.

6. Acts as liaison between clients, vendors, consulting resources, and applications area. Assists with relationship management, contract negotiations, and ensuring adherence to requirements.

7. Participates in developing recommendations for architecture direction and applications portfolio.

8. Supports the implementation of applications into production and testing environments in conjunction with operations, and collaborates with technical staff to resolve issues.

9. May perform additional duties as assigned.

Reporting Relationship

Typically reports to a Director or above.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

• Solid technical knowledge of high-level programming languages, databases, interfaces, and familiarity with application development alternatives.
• In-depth knowledge of the system development life cycle and technological alternatives for system and application development.
• Proven knowledge of client area's functions and systems.
• Proven understanding of state-of-the-art application development support software packages; proficiency in at least one higher-level programming language.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of interface design and user-centered design methods.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with peers, management, staff, and business partners/clients.
• Ability to manage projects, lead teams, and mentor individuals.
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Office and other business-related software, including .NET C#, Java, JavaScript, Python, and relevant development tools like VS Code, JetBrains IDEs, Git, npm/yarn, pip, Maven/Gradle, Docker (5+ years of experience).
• Preferred industry knowledge in insurance.
• Preferred experience in AI/ML model development and app design, specifically Vertex AI.
• Preferred experience with front-end frameworks like React.
• Preferred experience implementing data access via SQL, NoSQL, and GraphQL.
• Preferred experience with PowerBI or other data visualization tools.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline, or equivalent work experience.
• Typically at least seven years of systems analysis and application development experience.
• Some project leadership experience.
• Applicable certifications preferred.
