Senior Software Engineer – Advanced Technology Center (ATC)

Role Overview

In the ATC Software Delivery team, the Senior Software Engineer designs and builds full‑stack web applications, AI‑powered solutions, and lab environments that surface on wwt.com, and contributes to paid proof‑of‑concept engagements with customers.

Responsibilities

• Design, architect, and build full‑stack web applications and APIs using modern frameworks and languages (e.g., React, Next.js, Node.js, Python, TypeScript, Go) following production‑quality engineering standards.
• Develop and integrate AI application components including LLM‑based features, retrieval‑augmented generation (RAG) pipelines, vector databases, agentic workflows, and AI APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Azure OpenAI, Google Gemini, etc.) into full‑stack applications and ATC lab environments.
• Build and maintain software‑centric lab environments on wwt.com and develop software prototypes that demonstrate emerging technology capabilities.
• Support paid proof‑of‑concept engagements by architecting and delivering custom software solutions tailored to specific customer business challenges.
• Leverage AI‑based coding assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code) as a standard part of the development workflow to accelerate delivery and improve code quality.
• Lead and contribute to code reviews; establish and uphold software engineering best practices, including coding standards, testing, documentation, and version control.
• Collaborate with the Software Delivery Team Lead, ATC architects, and practice leads to align on technical approach and delivery priorities.
• Stay current on full‑stack development trends, AI application tooling, cloud‑native platforms, and emerging software engineering practices; share knowledge with the broader team.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software development experience with depth in full‑stack application development and at least 1–2 years building AI‑powered applications.
• Required: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of experience with React or a comparable front‑end framework, Node.js or Python back‑end development, REST/GraphQL API design, cloud‑native deployment (AWS, Azure, or GCP), Docker/Kubernetes, source control (git), and CI/CD pipelines. Hands‑on experience with LLM APIs, vector databases, and agentic AI frameworks is required.
• Expert proficiency in full‑stack web development across React, Next.js, Vue, Node.js, Python, Go, REST/GraphQL APIs, relational and NoSQL databases.
• Hands‑on experience designing AI‑powered applications using LLM API integration, RAG, vector databases, prompt engineering, AI agents, and orchestration frameworks.
• Proficiency using AI‑based coding assistants to improve productivity and quality.
• Strong experience with cloud‑native application development, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and modern DevOps / CI-CD practices.
• Ability to lead code reviews, mentor junior engineers, and set and uphold team‑wide engineering standards.
• Comfortable using Agile practices and Kanban boards for work management.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Up to 5% domestic travel required.

Salary

Estimated base pay range: $105,000 to $130,000 annually.
