Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Sr. Financial Counselor within the Office of COO, Operations Department at the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine. Under the direction of the Sr. Manager Billing and Collections, the Sr. Financial Counselor is responsible for implementing policies and procedures regarding payment for services rendered to Rutgers School of Dental Medicine patients to ensure that all accounts remain current.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

• Counsels patients who are experiencing financial problems which may interrupt treatment. Reviews patients' financial information to see if they meet the qualifications for a lower fee schedule.
• Answers any questions patients have concerning the fees charged for their treatment. Audits patients' charts as needed.
• Answers questions students and patients have concerning the patients' insurance coverage.
• Obtains third party insurance information from patients and verifies eligibility. Scans and enters insurance information in Axium. Helps resolve any issues patients have concerning insurance reimbursement.
• Reviews patients' treatment plans with students, explains to the students which portion of the treatment has to be paid before the student continues with treatment or sends the case to the lab.
• Completes all refund requests after reviewing the patients' charts and transaction records to ensure that a refund is in order.
• Prepares clinical adjustment forms after a review of patients' records and submits them to the Manager of Patient Business Services for processing.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

• High School diploma required.
• A minimum of five (5) years of Patient Accounts experience required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Prior front-end experience in multi-disciplinary operations including hands on experience in the handling of various managed care insurances required.
• Experience with provider credentialing required.
• Must have excellent customer service skills, professional phone and communication skills to respond to patient inquiries and excellent attention to detail.
• Proficient in various Microsoft Applications including Word, Excel, and Billing Systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• AA degree preferred.
• Knowledge of dental billing, treatments and dental terminology an asset.
• Experience with AxiUm Dental Management Software would be a plus.
• Previous experience with patient collections would be a plus.

• PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Standing, walking and talking.
