Job summary

Duke Energy Corporation is seeking a Sr. Financial Analyst to support cost management accounting, analysis, and reporting for the Regulated Utilities segment.

The role partners with business leaders on financial priorities, develops consolidated budgets, and communicates insights to senior leaders. The candidate will have in-depth accounting knowledge, experience with financial applications, and strong Excel/PowerPoint skills.

Qualifications

  • Comprehensive knowledge of accounting and finance principals and procedures.
  • Experience with financial applications and query tools.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Masters in Accounting or MBA; professional certification (CPA/CFA) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform cost management accounting, financial analysis, and reporting for the Regulated Utilities segment.
  • Partner with executives and management on financial priorities and challenges.
  • Develop and consolidate budgets and provide consolidated financial information.
  • Communicate with senior leaders to enhance financial acumen and decision making.
  • Self-directed work with minimal guidance and stakeholder alignment.

This is the fourth level of the financial analysis classification hierarchy. Employees at this level work in self directed manner receiving very minimal guidance. Incumbents are required to have in-depth knowledge and experience and work to solve complex problems. Incumbents also act as a resource for less experience employees.

The Sr. Financial Analyst is responsible for cost management accounting, financial analysis, and reporting to support the Regulated Utilities business segment. Consults, and partners with, business executives and line management on financial priorities and challenges. Influences and drives financial acumen across the organization. Effectively communicates with senior leaders of the business who may not be financial experts. Develops and formulates recommendations based on analyses and operational knowledge. Identifies trends that result in resource allocation recommendations. Key work activities also include formulating and consolidating budgets, and developing consolidated financial information. Self directed in their work and provides strong context for decision making.

Additional Preferred Qualifications
  • Possesses and applies a comprehensive knowledge of accounting and finance principles, practices, and procedures to complete moderately complex assignments
  • Experience with financial applications (i.e., PeopleSoft FMIS, Power Plant, etc.) and query tool (Business Objects)
  • Proficient using Microsoft products such as Excel, Word, and Power Point
  • Masters in Accounting or MBA
  • Professional certification (e.g., CPA, CFA)

Specific Requirements
  • Must have 3+ years (6+ desired) of increasingly diverse or complex experience in related field in addition to degree
  • Duke Energy internship or co-op experience.
  • Years of prior equivalent work related experience in lieu of a degree is N/A unless grandfathered in and requires CFO Staff approval.
