Job summary

Couchbase is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst to join our FP&A team in Raleigh (hybrid; 3 days in the office). You will partner with executives, manage headcount consolidation, and oversee financial tracking and reporting across G&A and R&D. You’ll also serve as the Pigment platform SME, driving data accuracy and process automation.

The role demands 2–5 years of FP&A experience, strong headcount modeling, and advanced Excel skills. Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s or CPA/CA is a plus.

Qualifications

• 2 to 5 years of progressive FP&A experience, ideally within a multi-functional, global, or private-equity-backed technology environment. Strong experience in headcount modeling is highly preferred.
• Technical Skills & Tools: Direct experience administering Pigment is strongly preferred. Proficiency or familiarity with NetSuite and Databricks is a strong plus. Advanced Excel modeling skills are required.
• Data Integrity & Analytical Rigor: A relentless commitment to data accuracy, structured problem-solving, and clear model reconciliations back to underlying source data.
• Stakeholder Management: Proven track record of gathering and consolidating data from cross-functional stakeholders with clarity, consistency, and professionalism.
• Autonomy & Execution: Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities across headcount, expense tracking, and system administration, and thrive in a high-visibility role.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related quantitative field. A Master’s degree or professional certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Maintain master headcount model and deliver an authoritative view feeding P&L models and board presentations.
• Perform monthly headcount variance analyses at the granular position level, delivering insights into hiring trends and timing.
• Monitor backfill timing, open roles aging, and alignment against the AOP to identify capacity risks.
• Own variance reporting for G&A and R&D with root-cause explanations, not just line-item tables.
• Build, refine, and support annual operating plans and rolling forecasts with functional leads.
• Manage day-to-day administration of Pigment for FP&A, including user access and data refreshes.
• Update platform structures to support budgeting cycles and drive automation and data efficiency.
• Prepare monthly management reports, board decks, and sponsor reporting packages.
• Build bottom-up headcount and cost assumptions for long-range planning.

Senior Financial Analyst

NOTE: This is a hybrid role located in Raleigh, NC. The expectation is 3 days/week in office. Please do not apply if you are not able to commit to this schedule without relocating.

Role Overview

We are looking for a driven, detail-oriented Senior Financial Analyst to join our FP&A team. In this high-visibility role, you will partner directly with executive leadership, manage company-wide headcount consolidation, and oversee financial tracking and reporting across key organizational functions. You will also serve as our Subject Matter Expert (SME) and primary administrator for our financial planning platform, Pigment.

What You’ll Do

All-Company Headcount Consolidation & Governance

• Model Ownership: Maintain the master headcount model, tracking actuals, approvals, and forward-looking hiring plans across all global departments to deliver a single, authoritative view feeding our P&L models and board presentations.
• Variance Analysis: Perform monthly headcount variance analyses at the granular position level, delivering insight into hiring trends and timing.
• Proactive Governance: Monitor backfill timing, open role aging, and alignment against the Annual Operating Plan (AOP) to identify capacity risks and flag overhiring before it impacts financial metrics.

G&A and R&D Expense Management

• Root-Cause Variance Analysis: Own the monthly and quarterly variance reporting processes for G&A (People, Legal, Finance, Business & Transformation) and R&D (Engineering & Product) teams, delivering impactful root-cause explanations rather than simple line-item tables.
• AOP & Rolling Forecasts: Partner with functional business leaders across G&A and R&D to build, refine, and support annual operating plans and rolling financial forecasts.

Pigment Platform Administration

• System SME: Manage day-to-day administration of the Pigment platform for the FP&A team, including user access management, model enhancements, and data refreshes.
• Maintenance & Optimization: Update platform structures on quarterly and annual cadences to support budgeting and forecasting cycles, while continuously driving process automation and data efficiency.

Strategic Reporting & Long-Range Planning

• Executive & Board Materials: Support the preparation of monthly management reports, board decks, and Private Equity sponsor reporting packages.
• Long-Range Planning (LRP): Build well-structured, bottom-up headcount and cost assumptions to feed into multi-year strategic financial models.

What We’re Looking For

The anticipated starting base pay range for this role is listed below. Base salary is not the only component of our competitive total rewards package - you may also be eligible for bonus, commissions, and other benefits as described below. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, licenses and certifications, and specific work location.

$110,000—$113,000 USD
