Medtronic is seeking a Senior Director of Financial Planning & Analysis to lead the Surgical Operating Unit’s FP&A function. This onsite U.S.

role partners with executive leadership to drive growth, profitability, and strategic initiatives across revenue, margins, and capital investments. The position leads a high-performing team of finance professionals, delivering forecasting, planning, and performance insights to guide critical business decisions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 10+ years of finance experience with 7+ years of people leadership, or advanced degree with 7+ years of leadership experience.
  • Experience leading financial planning, forecasting, annual operating planning, and business performance management.
  • Experience managing P&L and supporting executive-level financial decision-making.
  • Experience presenting financial results and recommendations to senior leadership.

A Day in the Life

The Surgical Operating Unit is a key business within Medtronic's Medical Surgical portfolio, delivering advanced surgical technologies that support physicians and healthcare professionals across minimally invasive and open surgical procedures. With approximately $6B in annual revenue and 6,000 employees globally, the business provides solutions that improve patient outcomes, providing advanced surgical technologies that support physicians and patients across a wide range on minimally invasive and open surgical procedures. This role is part of the Surgical Finance leadership team and serves as a strategic finance partner to senior business leaders. Based onsite at Medtronic's Lafayette, Colorado; North Haven, CT; Boston, MA or Mounds View, MN campus. The Senior Director, Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) provides financial leadership across the Surgical Operating Unit, leading financial planning, forecasting, reporting, and performance management activities. The role partners closely with executive leadership to drive growth, profitability, investment decisions, resource allocation, and strategic initiatives while leading a high-performing team of finance professionals. As a trusted advisor to both business and finance leaders, this individual helps shape strategy through data-driven insights and rigorous financial analysis.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Partner with executive leadership to develop and execute financial strategies aligned with business objectives.
  • Lead annual operating planning, long-range planning, forecasting, and monthly financial close processes.
  • Provide executive-level insights on revenue, margin, operating expense, capital investments, and strategic growth opportunities.
  • Deliver financial analysis and insights on revenue, gross margin, operating expenses, capital investments, and business performance.
  • Communicate financial results, performance drivers, risks, and business outlook to business and finance stakeholders.
  • Partner with operations, commercial, research and development, portfolio, and corporate teams to support strategic decision-making and resource allocation.
  • Evaluate strategic initiatives, business development opportunities, and cost optimization efforts through financial analysis.
  • Drive performance management through financial metrics, forecasting accuracy, and actionable business insights.
  • Build and develop a high-performing finance organization through leadership, talent development, succession planning, and coaching.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and 10+ years of finance, financial planning and analysis, accounting, or business finance experience with 7+ years of people leadership experience OR Advanced degree and 8+ years of finance, financial planning and analysis, accounting, or business finance experience with 7+ years of people leadership experience.
  • Experience leading financial planning, forecasting, annual operating planning, and business performance management.
  • Experience managing profit and loss statements and supporting executive-level financial decision-making.
  • Experience presenting financial results, analyses, and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Experience leading and developing teams within a global organization.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting a global business with profit and loss responsibility exceeding $6B.
  • Experience partnering with executive leadership on business strategy, growth initiatives, and resource allocation.
  • Experience in medical device, healthcare, life sciences, or other regulated industries.
  • Experience leading cross‑functional financial initiatives across operations, commercial, and research and development functions.
  • Master of Business Administration (MBA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.
  • For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$204,800.00 - $307,200.00

This position is eligible for a short‑term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP). The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
