Job description

At Lucid, we are creating exceptional mobility experiences through innovation to drive the world forward. Built on Lucid’s proprietary technology and software-defined vehicle architecture, our award-winning vehicles bring our “Compromise Nothing™” approach to the global automotive market. That means refusing to choose between performance and sustainability, design and engineering, ambition and integrity. In Lucid Air and Lucid Gravity, we have designed and built vehicles that have redefined their segments, combining exceptional range, performance, design, and expansive space in a single experience.

We achieve this through deep vertical integration, with design, engineering, and production happening in-house across our global offices and manufacturing facilities. Our teams come from industries around the world, united by a shared commitment to excellence. By refusing to settle, you can help redefine what’s possible and shape the future of mobility.

About the Team

Lucid’s Field Quality Laboratory plays a critical role in understanding customer-facing quality concerns and turning evidence into durable engineering solutions. The team investigates returned components, vehicle data, laboratory findings, and field performance trends to determine why failures occur and how to prevent recurrence. Its work connects Field Quality, Warranty Engineering, Product Engineering, Reliability, Manufacturing Engineering, Supplier Quality, and Service Operations to accelerate issue resolution across Lucid’s vehicle programs. What makes this team unique is its hands‑on, evidence-based approach to solving complex technical problems that directly influence customer experience, product quality, and future design decisions.

About the Role

As a Senior Field Quality Laboratory Engineer, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), you will lead complex technical investigations involving customer‑returned parts, failed components, vehicle systems, and field quality concerns. This role reports to a Field Quality Laboratory leadership role and exists to improve Lucid’s ability to identify validated failure mechanisms, reduce investigation cycle time, and prevent recurring quality issues. In your first 12 months, you will own high‑impact investigations, strengthen repeatable failure‑analysis methods, and help improve the quality of technical evidence used to support corrective action decisions. Success will be measured by clear root cause conclusions, effective corrective action validation, faster investigation turnaround, and stronger cross‑functional alignment on issue resolution. A strong candidate will gain direct ownership of failure analysis for customer‑impacting vehicle concerns, with access to returned components, diagnostic data, laboratory testing, and engineering decision‑making across hardware, software, service, supplier, and manufacturing interfaces.

What You’ll Own
  • Root Cause Ownership: Lead technical investigations into customer-reported quality concerns and determine validated failure mechanisms using returned components, vehicle data, service findings, and laboratory test results.
  • Failure Analysis: Perform component inspections, teardown analysis, dimensional measurements, material evaluations, and functional assessments to identify failure origins and contributing factors.
  • Validation Testing: Develop and execute structured test plans that reproduce field failures, validate hypotheses, and confirm the effectiveness of corrective actions.
  • Technical Evidence: Build clear, evidence‑based technical cases that combine laboratory findings, engineering data, vehicle diagnostics, manufacturing records, supplier information, and field performance data.
  • Cross‑Functional Alignment: Partner with Field Quality, Warranty Engineering, Product Engineering, Reliability, Manufacturing Engineering, Supplier Quality, and Service Operations to move investigations from issue identification through validated resolution.
  • Process Standards: Create repeatable failure‑analysis procedures, test methods, technical documentation, and lessons learned that improve investigation quality and consistency across the laboratory.
  • Escalation Support: Provide technical expertise, investigation findings, and recommended actions for high‑priority quality reviews, customer concerns, and emerging issue assessments.
What You Bring
  • 5 years of experience in failure analysis, field quality, warranty engineering, product engineering, reliability engineering, laboratory testing, validation engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Materials Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Experience leading structured root cause investigations involving mechanical, electrical, electronic, software‑integrated, or electromechanical systems.
  • Hands‑on experience performing component inspections, teardown analysis, failure reproduction, and engineering validation testing.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English sufficiently to perform the essential duties of the position, including understanding work instructions, safety procedures, and job‑related communications.
Preferred
  • Experience supporting automotive field quality, warranty engineering, customer issue management, or product investigation teams.
  • Experience with battery‑electric vehicles and related systems, such as high‑voltage batteries, electric drive units, charging systems, thermal systems, body systems, or vehicle electronics.
  • Familiarity with vehicle diagnostics, DTC analysis, CAN communication, telematics, and data logging tools.
  • Experience operating laboratory equipment, such as environmental chambers, data acquisition systems, electrical test equipment, vibration systems, and durability testing equipment.
  • Knowledge of materials analysis, fracture analysis, metallurgical evaluation, reliability engineering techniques, APQP, PPAP, DFMEA, PFMEA, SPC, or automotive product development processes.
  • Experience supporting supplier‑related failure investigations, corrective action validation, product launches, engineering validation programs, or manufacturing process investigations.
  • MS degree in Engineering, Reliability Engineering, Materials Science, or a related technical discipline.
Physical Requirements
  • Standing and Walking: Ability to stand and walk for 8–12 hours per shift on hard surfaces in a production, service, or laboratory environment.
  • Manual Dexterity: Frequent use of hands for handling tools, inspecting components, assembling or disassembling parts, and operating laboratory or diagnostic equipment.
  • Lifting and Carrying: Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull items weighing 10–50 lbs. regularly; occasional lifting up to 75 lbs. with assistance.
