About the Team

The Field Quality team connects real-world customer experiences with engineering, manufacturing, supplier quality, service, and warranty actions that improve Lucid vehicle quality. This team plays a critical role in identifying emerging field concerns, determining technical root cause, and driving corrective actions that reduce repeat issues and improve customer confidence. What makes the team unique is its direct line of sight from customer feedback to product and process improvement, allowing quality learnings from the field to influence current vehicles and future designs.

About the Role

As a Senior Field Quality Engineer, External Components, you will serve as the technical owner for field quality investigations involving exterior vehicle systems and report to a field quality or quality engineering leader. This role exists to improve how Lucid identifies, investigates, and resolves customer concerns related to exterior components such as closures, trim, lighting, glass, sealing systems, charging doors, and appearance-critical features. In your first 12 months, you will own key field investigations, lead root cause analysis, validate corrective actions, and help reduce repeat failures through data-driven quality improvements. Success will be measured by faster root cause closure, stronger corrective action effectiveness, improved warranty and field performance trends, and clearer connection between customer feedback and engineering action. This role offers the opportunity to influence vehicle quality across the full feedback loop, from customer experience and service data to product design, manufacturing process, supplier performance, and long-term quality strategy.

What You Own

  • Field Investigations: Lead technical investigations for exterior component concerns and determine root cause using warranty data, field reports, vehicle inspections, component analysis, and cross-functional engineering input.
  • Corrective Actions: Own containment, corrective action development, validation plans, and effectiveness checks that reduce repeat field concerns and prevent recurrence.
  • Quality Trends: Analyze warranty claims, service data, customer feedback, parts returns, and field reports to identify emerging risks and prioritize actions based on customer impact, severity, frequency, and business risk.
  • Design Feedback: Translate field learnings into product improvements by partnering with engineering teams on design reviews, engineering changes, DFMEA updates, and validation activities.
  • Process Improvement: Evaluate manufacturing, assembly, dimensional, and plant quality processes that may contribute to exterior component failures, then align teams on practical improvements.
  • Supplier Resolution: Partner with Supplier Quality and supplier engineering teams to confirm failure mechanisms, verify corrective actions, and improve long-time component performance.
  • Cross-Functional Alignment: Serve as the quality liaison across Product Engineering, Reliability, Manufacturing Engineering, Supplier Quality, Service Operations, Warranty Engineering, and Program Management to drive timely issue resolution.

What You Bring

  • 5 years of experience in automotive engineering, quality engineering, field quality, supplier quality, reliability engineering, manufacturing engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience conducting structured root cause investigations and leading corrective action development for technical product or process concerns.
  • Working knowledge of automotive exterior systems, including closures, exterior trim, lighting, fascias, glazing systems, sealing systems, decorative components, charging doors, or appearance-critical features.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English sufficiently to perform the essential duties of the position, including understanding work instructions, safety procedures, and job-related communications.

Preferred

  • Experience supporting automotive warranty, service engineering, field quality, customer issue management, or vehicle launch activities.
  • Experience with body systems, closures, lighting systems, glass, sealing systems, exterior trim, appearance quality, or dimensional variation analysis.
  • Familiarity with vehicle diagnostics, warranty systems, customer complaint analysis, or telematics-based quality investigations.
  • Experience evaluating cosmetic, fit and finish, water leak, wind noise, corrosion, durability, vibration, or environmental performance issues.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as stamping, injection molding, painting, assembly, glazing, or supplier production operations.
  • Experience working with suppliers to validate root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Understanding of reliability engineering principles, durability validation methods, or quality methodologies such as 8D, RCCA, Fishbone Analysis, Fault Tree Analysis, APQP, or FMEA.
  • Experience within automotive, EV, aerospace, advanced manufacturing, or another highly regulated technical environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Standing and Walking: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods in a production, service, or vehicle inspection environment.
  • Manual Dexterity: Ability to use hands to handle tools, inspect components, operate basic equipment, and perform detailed exterior system evaluations.
  • Lifting and Carrying: Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull items weighing up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance, as required for inspections or component handling.
  • Reaching and Bending: Ability to reach, bend, twist, squat, or access vehicle areas during inspections, troubleshooting, and validation activities.
  • Repetitive Motions: Ability to perform repeated hand, arm, or wrist movements when inspecting, positioning, or evaluating parts and vehicle systems.
  • Climbing: Ability to occasionally use steps or approved access equipment to inspect vehicles or components at different height levels.
