Job summary

Lucid Motors in Coolidge, AZ is hiring a Sr. Field Quality Engineer, ADAS to bridge Engineering, Manufacturing, and Service between prototype builds and early production.

You will diagnose complex vehicle issues and lead containment plans, ensuring quality targets are met from launch through ramp-up while coordinating with multiple teams across programs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Automotive or related STEM.
  • 6+ years of experience in Automotive Field Quality or related roles.
  • Strong understanding of vehicle systems (powertrain, electrical, thermal, chassis, infotainment).
  • Hands-on experience with diagnostics, validation, and problem solving.
  • Experience with cross-functional teams across Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Service, and Operations.

Responsibilities

  • Launch vehicle programs from prototype to SOP and ramp-up.
  • Investigate quality concerns and perform root-cause analysis.

The Role

Launching a new vehicle program is one of the most critical moments in a customer’s ownership experience. This role exists to ensure quality risks are identified, understood, and resolved before they become customer-impacting issues while supporting successful vehicle launches, production readiness, and ramp-up execution across Lucid’s current and future product portfolio.

As a Sr. Field Quality Engineer, Launch Quality, you will serve as the technical bridge between Engineering, Manufacturing, Service, Quality, Program Management, and Operations teams during prototype builds, validation activities, pre-production phases, Start of Production (SOP), and early production ramp-up. You will investigate emerging quality concerns, validate corrective actions, support launch containment activities, and help ensure new vehicle programs achieve quality targets from launch through stable production.

Success in the first 12 months means supporting successful Project Nexus launch activities, accelerating issue resolution during vehicle ramp-up, reducing customer-impacting launch issues, and strengthening launch quality processes that support Lucid’s next generation of products. What You’ll Own

Launch Quality & Production Readiness: Support vehicle launch activities across prototype builds, validation programs, pilot builds, pre‑production, Start of Production (SOP), and production ramp‑up. Partner with Program Management, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Operations, and Engineering teams to identify launch risks, confirm readiness, and support controlled execution.

Vehicle Systems & Hardware Diagnostics: Investigate and diagnose complex vehicle issues across key systems, including powertrain, electrical, thermal, chassis, body, infotainment, and software-enabled vehicle functions. Perform hands‑on troubleshooting activities, including vehicle diagnostics, data logging, signal validation, component‑level inspections, and failure analysis.

Issue Replication & Technical Validation: Reproduce issues on customer, fleet, pilot‑build, pre‑production, or test vehicles to validate failure conditions and confirm technical findings. Analyze vehicle diagnostics, fault codes, service logs, telemetry, and system behavior to determine root cause and support corrective action planning.

Launch Risk Assessment & Containment: Support containment planning, issue escalation, and rapid‑response activities during launch and production ramp‑up phases. Partner with Manufacturing, Service, Engineering, and Quality teams to mitigate quality risks before widespread customer impact.

Cross‑Functional Technical Interface: Work closely with Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Manufacturing, Supplier Quality, Diagnostics, Service, Program Management, and Operations teams to resolve issues and improve launch readiness. Translate field findings into clear technical problem statements supported by actionable data and engineering recommendations.

Warranty & Field Data Insights: Transform real‑world field data into meaningful insights that support launch quality improvement, issue prioritization, and production readiness decisions. Identify variability drivers through warranty trends, telematics data, manufacturing records, service data, and vehicle health metrics.

Operational Execution & Issue Management: Manage the lifecycle of quality concerns from identification through closure, including issue replication, data collection, documentation, severity and risk assessment, corrective action tracking, validation, verification, and confirmation of fix effectiveness. Ensure investigations are executed efficiently and documented thoroughly within internal quality systems.

Customer Impact & Reliability Improvement: Prioritize and upscale high‑risk or high‑frequency quality concerns that could affect customer experience. Support reductions in vehicle downtime, repeat repairs, launch‑related quality escapes, and service complexity. Recommend improvements to diagnostic strategies, service procedures, launch readiness plans, and repair processes.

Technical Root Cause & Corrective Actions: Lead or support structured root cause investigations involving vehicle hardware, software, manufacturing, supplier, process, or integration‑related concerns. Differentiate between design, manufacturing, supplier, process, service, and integration‑related failures. Partner with Engineering teams to develop, validate, and confirm corrective actions.

Continuous Product & Launch Improvement: Translate field learnings into design improvements, launch process enhancements, diagnostic strategy updates, service readiness recommendations, and quality system improvements that strengthen future vehicle programs and launch execution.

What You Bring
Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related STEM discipline.
  • 6+ years of experience in Automotive Field Quality, Product Quality, Reliability Engineering, Warranty Engineering, Diagnostics Engineering, Manufacturing Quality, Vehicle Integration, Service Engineering, or related technical disciplines.
  • Strong understanding of vehicle systems, including powertrain, electrical systems, high‑voltage systems, thermal systems, chassis, body, infotainment, and software‑enabled vehicle functions.
  • Hands‑on experience performing vehicle investigations, issue replication, diagnostics, validation, and technical problem solving.
  • Experience investigating complex vehicle issues and performing structured root cause analysis.
  • Ability to interpret diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), service logs, vehicle logs, telemetry data, warranty information, and manufacturing data.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify trends, variability drivers, and emerging risks using real‑world field, warranty, and production data.
  • Experience working cross‑functionally with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Service, Program Management, Operations, and Supplier‑facing teams.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing operations, launch activities, production readiness, or fast‑paced production environments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical findings into clear problem statements, risk assessments, and action plans.
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to thrive in fast‑paced launch and production environments where priorities evolve rapidly.

Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English sufficiently to perform the essential duties of the position, including understanding work instructions, safety procedures, and job‑related communications.

Preferred:
  • Experience supporting vehicle launches, prototype builds, pilot builds, pre‑production builds, validation programs, or Start of Production (SOP) activities.
  • Experience supporting new vehicle programs within an OEM environment.
  • Electric vehicle experience, including high‑voltage architectures and advanced vehicle systems.
  • Experience working directly with Manufacturing Engineering, NPI, Program Management, Launch, Quality, or Operations organizations.
  • Experience working within an automotive manufacturing facility, vehicle assembly plant, or production environment.
  • Familiarity with APQP, PPAP, launch containment, control plans, production readiness reviews, and automotive launch processes.
  • Experience using structured quality and problem‑solving methodologies, including 8D, FMEA, DOE, SPC, Fishbone Analysis, Control Plans, PPAP, and related tools.
  • Experience supporting multiple vehicle programs through launch and early production phases.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
  • Master’s degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
Work Requirement

This role is fully onsite at our Coolidge, AZ manufacturing facility. Daily in‑person collaboration with Manufacturing, Program Management, Engineering, Quality, Service, and Operations teams is required to support vehicle launch execution, production readiness, early‑life quality investigations, issue containment, and ramp‑up activities for current and future vehicle programs.
