University of Minnesota seeks the H.W. Sweatt Senior Fellow in AI/ML Technology Leadership to lead the strategic development and delivery of AI/ML curriculum for academic and non-academic programs.
Responsibilities include collaboration with college, university and industry partners to identify training needs, develop a 2-credit AI/ML course, and deliver comprehensive curriculum across multiple modules.
H.W. Sweatt Senior Fellow in AI/ML Technology Leadership serves as the lead for the strategic
development and delivery of dynamic, innovative curriculum for both academic and
non-academic programs in TLI. These programs will equip participants with essential skills in
artificial intelligence (AI) development and application, with a strong emphasis on ensuring the
safe, ethical, and responsible adoption of these transformative technologies. The Senior Fellow
will collaborate with college, university and technology-intensive industry partners to understand
education needs. This position will also be responsible for identifying growth opportunities for
TLI in the college and industry.
This is a two-year, 75%, non-tenured, academic professional position. Continuation beyond the
initial two-year appointment depends on funding and satisfactory performance. This position
reports to the Gemini Chair in Engineering Entrepreneurship.
Academic course development and delivery
* Collaborate with the TLI Director and Director of Graduate Studies to develop a 2-credit
AI/ML course for TLI graduate-level degree and certificate programs according to
University requirements and standards.
* Define learning outcomes.
* Upload course materials into the Canvas learning management system.
* Prepare and present lectures, assignments, exams, and learning assessments.
* Respond to student inquiries and hold office hours.
* Assess and grad student work, submit final grades.
Business development
* Develop relationships with industry partners to understand how AI/ML is being used in
the company to identify continuing education training needs and opportunities.
* Collaborate with the TLI Marketing and Communication team to develop a
comprehensive marketing and promotion plan
Industry training program development and delivery
* Design, develop, and deliver curriculum for various modules including assessments.
* Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Defining learning outcomes, project schedules, assignments, and learning
assessments.
Upload course materials into the Canvas learning management system.
Deliver the course to project participants.
Communicate with participants through Canvas, office hours, email, or other
methods of communication for the duration of the course.
* Participate in search committees as needed.
Applicants should have a distinguished track record in their field of expertise. Bachelor's degree
required. Professional and/or teaching experience related to assigned instruction responsibilities
may be required.
* Advanced degree in engineering technology or related field.
* At least 10 years of industry experience training.
* Expert-level knowledge and understanding, and proficiency in use of AI concepts,
including machine learning, deep learning, and agentic AI, and how models are
developed, trained, and validated
* Demonstrated familiarity with AI tools and their use cases/application across the
industry, such as administrative automation, predictive analytics, and algorithms specific
to diagnoses and treatment
* Demonstrated experience designing and delivering AI/ML courses and experiences for
adult learners including creating quality curriculum and assessments for synchronous
and asynchronous learning environments
* Strong communication skills, including creating feedback and communication that is
clear, timely, solution-focused, and positive
* Understanding of the industry landscape: operational, ethical, legal, data compliance,
and regulatory aspects; understanding of regulatory science and the future of AI in
regulatory science
* Ability to translate complex and technical concepts into clear, accessible language and
provide opportunities for learners to connect what they are learning to their specific work
flow and role.
* Industry experience training and/or developing technical or scientific professionals.
* Prior college-level teaching or professional training and development experience in a
leadership, technical, or management discipline.
* Experience in recruitment, marketing, and/or educational/training programs.
* Experience in managing relationships with entities external to the University including
companies, government agencies, or professional organizations.
Pay Range: $175,000 annually; depending on education/qualifications/experience
Time Appointment: 75% Appointment
