Duke Energy seeks a Senior Engineering Technologist to provide advanced technical expertise for field testing, diagnostics, and analysis of power plant systems. The role operates with minimal supervision and supports Maintenance & Diagnostics (M&D) Performance Testing to improve plant reliability, efficiency, and overall performance across the fleet.
Responsibilities include testing, troubleshooting, reporting, and mentoring less experienced team members.
This is the career-level position within the Engineering Technologist classification. The Senior Engineering Technologist provides advanced technical expertise to solve complex technical problems and supports the execution of field testing, diagnostics, and analysis of power plant systems. The role operates with minimal supervision and is expected to work independently with significant latitude in decision-making and execution. This position supports the Maintenance & Diagnostics (M&D) Performance Testing function by performing hands-on field testing, technical troubleshooting, and analysis to improve plant reliability, efficiency, and overall performance across the regulated fleet.
Field Mobility Classification – Work will be performed in various field locations, as needed, after the onboarding period.
However, field employees are required to live within a reasonable daily commute to their assigned work location.
Based out of a central lab, drive to a plant location to perform on-site testing.
Generally working as a self-directed team of two with limited supervision by the plant.
Power plant conditions working in the field.
Exposure to heat, humidity and cold depending on the location.
Incidental work from heights.
Install, connect, disconnect field test equipment.
Set up portable mesh data networks.
Daily travel with some overnight for extended tests at distant locations.
