Duke Energy is seeking a Training Technician to support the safe, reliable operation and maintenance of a combined cycle generation facility. Location: Anderson County Combined Cycle Plant, with relocation of operations to new site planned for 2029.

Qualifications

This role supports the safe, reliable operation and maintenance of a combined cycle generation facility. The Training Technician is responsible for learning and performing equipment start‑up, shutdown, monitoring, troubleshooting, repair, calibration, and routine maintenance across plant systems, including combustion turbines, steam turbine auxiliaries, water treatment systems, substation equipment, and balance‑of‑plant equipment. The position requires a strong safety focus, mechanical and electrical aptitude, the ability to follow procedures such as Lock-Out-Tag-Out, and the flexibility to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and respond to planned or unplanned site events. This is a hands‑on role for someone who can work independently and as part of a team while building the technical knowledge needed to support plant operations.

Location: Anderson County Combined Cycle Plant staff will be located at W. S. Lee Combined Cycle until the Anderson County facilities are available in 2029

Responsibilities

• Responsible for operations, maintenance and balance of plant functions required at the facility.
• Perform operation, planned and unplanned maintenance on substation equipment.
• Perform and follow Lock-Out-Tag-Out procedures on equipment such as HRSGs, steam turbines, gas turbines, pumps valves, chillers and high voltage equipment.
• Performs record keeping duties concerning Environmental, Health & Safety records, spreadsheets and documents.
• Able to make repairs to steam turbine auxiliary, prime movers and balance of plant equipment at a Combustion Turbine facility.
• Ability to read and understand technical OEM manuals, recommendations and warranty agreements.
• Support and follow safety guidelines, policies and procedures.
• Ability to operate, troubleshoot and maintain water treatment facilities such as reverse osmosis, demineralizers; and perform chemical treatment for equipment such as evaporators and HRSGs.
• Perform and monitor combustion and steam turbine plant equipment through normal operations, testing and emergency type events.
• Must have general mechanical and electrical skills and knowledge to troubleshoot, maintain and operate a combustion turbine site.
• Perform inventory duties, generating spare parts lists, min/max levels and revising inventory lists as required.
• Ability to read and understand technical mechanical, civil, and electrical drawings.
• General knowledge and ability to perform high voltage switching.

General Qualifications

• HS Diploma/GED

• Working knowledge of the overall operating fundamentals and principles of generating station systems, equipment and processes

Preferred Qualifications

• Associates degree and 2 years of related experience
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and control logic.
• Must be proficient with computers, software applications and plant work management software and tools such as Microsoft packages that include word, excel, power point.
• In addition, experience with maintenance management systems such as Maximo, Passport or equivalent.
• Additional years of experience with combustion turbine technology
• High voltage and substation maintenance and troubleshooting experience.
• Experience with mechanical and electronic field-testing equipment
• Experience with digital control systems, programmable logic controllers, and multi-fueled technologies.
• Knowledge of heavy lifting cranes and rigging requirements.

Work Conditions

Able to work/respond on short notice to support planned/unplanned/emergency site events.

Work schedule will require rotating shift work, weekend work and holidays.

Required to wear a respirator and must be able to successfully complete a physical and respirator fit test on annual or as needed basis.

Must be able to work at heights, from suspended work platforms and in confined spaces.

This position requires field work in a Combustion and Steam Turbine facility which includes exposure to heat, cold, noise, dust and humidity.

Will travel approximately 5-10% for training and assist other Duke Energy Carolinas Combustion Turbine sites when required.

Exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMF)

May be exposed to high stress situations.

Will be required to climb ladders and stairs at various heights; enter vessels or equipment with limited access.

Ability to walk, bend, stoop, kneel, push, pull, climb ladders, work in extreme heat or cold, walk/work on grating surfaces at extreme heights

Specific Requirements

• Must have a valid driver's license
• Must successfully complete EEI’s Plant Operator Selection System (POSS), and Power Plant Maintenance Selection System (MASS)
• Must successfully complete a Power Plant Physical Abilities Assessment
• Required to pass a medical physical including a respirator fit test
• Ability to successfully complete levels of Employee Development and Qualification Program training.
• Ability to work around equipment that generates electromagnetic fields (EMF).
• This position contains a weight restriction of 325 pounds as an essential function of the job. The purpose of this restriction is to ensure that all weight rated equipment is used in an appropriate and safe manner within maximum allowed weight loading.
