A leading engineering firm is looking for a Sr. Engineer - Water Resources in Minnetonka, MN. Join to apply for the Sr. Engineer - Water Resources role at Apex Engineering Group, Inc.

Office Location: Minnetonka, MN

Primary responsibilities include assisting Apex’s management team in maintaining and further developing regional business with current and future clients. Responsibilities include managing a team of engineers, technicians, and support staff on water resource projects, from planning through design and construction. A Senior Engineer shall be capable of independently managing projects and collaboratively contributing to the design and development of project plans and specifications while working with and mentoring project team members. This position typically reports to a sector leader or principal of the firm. Additional responsibilities include general marketing of the firm and various business development activities. This person must have the ability and desire to communicate directly with key clients while receiving input and direction from a supervisor.

Qualification Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering required. Master’s Degree is a plus.
  • Professional Engineers License preferred or ability to be licensed in Minnesota within 6 months is required.
  • 15 years of experience working as a Civil Engineer in the water resources and stormwater management field.
  • Strong project management skills and experience are essential for this position.
  • Construction management experience is also required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a prerequisite.
  • Must be detail-oriented, self-motivated, with strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Flexible working style and willingness to occasionally modify personal schedules as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs.
  • Proficient using Microsoft Windows/Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Experience in watershed modeling, storm water collection system design, pump station design, sizing and selecting equipment, preparing civil design drawings, and preparing cost opinions is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of Minnesota stormwater design standards and permitting.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Bentley OpenRoad Design, or other CAD-based civil design software is a plus.
  • A valid driver’s license is required or the ability to obtain one.
  • This position will require the initiative to think independently and make rational judgment calls.
  • Must be able to work independently and in a team environment.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to operate a computer under normal ergonomic office conditions.
  • Required to work in the office and occasionally work in an outdoors environment during construction season.
  • May require prolonged periods of standing and walking to perform some of the typical tasks and duties associated with construction site visits.
  • Required to lift objects or containers weighing a minimum of 50-lbs.
  • Travel and out of town stays may be required.
  • Must be able to work scheduled hours which typically exceeds 40 hours per work week.

Essential Tasks and Duties
  • Provide professional civil engineering services for clients by providing planning, design, specifications, reports, and construction project management.
  • Assist Apex senior management with hiring technical and clerical support staff as needed for the office.
  • Delegate and supervise project tasks to engineers and technicians on the project team.
  • Communicate frequently and effectively with clients, Apex senior management, and project team members on a consistent basis by providing updates and progress during all phases of projects.
  • Report to and work directly with Apex’s senior management and principals.
  • Attend company meetings, project meetings, and client meetings on a regular basis.
  • This position will require a prominent role in preparing proposals and participating in interviews for securing work for the firm.
  • Present at public venues such as stakeholder meetings and informational meetings.
  • This position may lead to a more prominent role as a Client Manager and Office Manager, which will include project budgets and company financial performance.
  • Expect to take on and understand the role of the project manager and be the owner’s point of contact on project and contractual issues.
  • Effectively deal with potentially difficult or confrontational situations.
  • Understand and follow the company employee handbook and mandated safety policies.
  • Perform responsibilities of this job in a conscientious, legal, and ethical manner with a strong attention to detail.
  • Participate in professional organizations and community leadership programs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Base Salary Pay Range

$125k - $175k (Actual base pay is dependent on several factors, including experience, education, licensure, job location, and internal equity.)
