Job summary

CMS Energy is seeking a Senior Engineering Technical Analyst to develop and sustain geospatial data models supporting MAOP, Class Location, and regulatory reporting. You will lead data governance, validation, and synchronization across UN, APR, and related systems, guiding engineers and operations to apply standards accurately.

Responsibilities include complex project leadership, design and construction standard updates, and collaboration with Engineering, Operations, Compliance, and Technology

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field with 4 years of experience in advanced engineering work.
  • Alternative pathways: Associate's degree with 6 years or high school diploma with 8 years in related roles.
  • Experience with GIS data standards, regulatory compliance, and asset data governance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead engineering projects: design, inspections, planning, permits, schedules, and field investigations.
  • Review complex construction prints and procedures; provide technical guidance.
  • Maintain and govern integrated GIS data models for MAOP, Class Location, and regulatory reporting.
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Operations, Compliance, and Technology teams to ensure data accuracy and auditable records.
  • Support DOT reporting through data analysis, reconciliation, and QA activities.

Location: This is a hybrid (virtual/onsite) position with required onsite days on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday assigned to the Parnall Office, located in Jackson, MI. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify).

General Summary of Job Responsibilities

The Senior Engineering Technical Analyst is responsible for the development and enhancement of standards and materials, including emerging technologies while continuing to meet all applicable regulatory rules and codes and solving problems for different work groups within compliance of all applicable rules. The incumbent requires communication of these standards and direction to both engineers and operations in a concise manner that allows precise application of the standards and technology. The Senior Engineering Technical Analyst will lead moderately complex projects and ensure they are completed according to plan and budget.

This role serves as a senior technical subject matter expert responsible for sustaining the geospatial and engineering data models that support MAOP, Class Location, regulatory compliance, and operational decision-making for the Gas Transmission and Storage GIS. The position leads data quality, validation, and governance activities; oversees synchronization of asset information between the Utility Network (UN), ArcGIS Pipeline Referencing (APR), and related systems; and supports annual DOT reporting through data analysis, reconciliation, and quality assurance. Working closely with Engineering, Operations, Compliance, and Technology teams, the role ensures asset information remains accurate, auditable, and representative of real-world conditions while advancing enterprise geospatial capabilities and data management practices.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead and/or assist with engineering projects to include design, inspections, system planning, specifications, reports, maps, environmental impacts, permits, contracts, schedules, estimates, surveying, easements, data collection, construction observation, and field investigation
  • Approve highly complex construction prints, work instructions, and procedures
  • Address complex concerns, investigate suggestions, and provide support, direction, and recommendations to the multi work groups effected
  • Respond to incident investigations, responsible for causal analysis/incident reports. Provide timely correspondence to external regulatory agencies
  • Assist in the scope document process, project cost-estimates, project meetings, and closeout estimates
  • Develop and maintain documentation processes associated with integrated systems including; hardware, applications, protocols, detailed point lists and revision control
  • Perform advanced research and development that leads to issuing updates to engineering and construction standards, manuals, design tools and documents that are used across the business to ensure compliance with laws and regulations
  • Other duties as assigned or may be necessary
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • ESRI Products (ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Enterprise, etc) broad knowledge
  • ArcGIS Utility Network and ArcGIS Pipeline Referencing broad knowledge
  • Modeling, data analysis, and automation using the ArcGIS API for python broad knowledge
  • Quality Control and Quality assurance for GIS data broad knowledge
  • Ability to research and understand advanced industry trends and provide utility benchmarking
  • Communication and Presentation Skills
  • Teamwork, analytical thinking, and willingness to learn new topics
  • Knowledge of Lean Methods/Tools
  • Ability to manage multiple conflicting projects and priorities simultaneously
Education/Experience Requirements
