Job summary

American Airlines is seeking an experienced engineer to lead cabin modification projects from concept to certification and entry into service. The role requires coordinating with Engineering, Maintenance, Supply Chain, marketing teams, suppliers, MROs and authorities to ensure compliant, on-time implementations.

You will guide technical dispositions, develop procedures for repairs and inspections, and mentor junior engineers while staying current with aviation regulations and company standards

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical/Aeronautical/Aerospace/Electrical) required.
• 6 years engineering experience in commercial aviation, aircraft modifications, interiors, certification, systems integration, or related field.
• Experience leading cross-functional technical projects.
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams without direct authority.
• Strong technical writing and engineering documentation skills.
• Ability to read/use/installations drawings; knowledge of 14 CFR Part 25.

Responsibilities

• Lead cabin modification projects from requirements through certification, installation and entry into service.
• Serve as primary technical focal point for assigned cabin modification projects and coordinate across Engineering, Maintenance, Supply Chain, Marketing, suppliers, MROs and regulators.
• Develop action plans for fleet/multi-fleet projects and pursue final dispositions.
• Prepare engineering documents to implement dispositions with procedures for repairs, modifications and inspections.
• Coordinate with manufacturers, seat suppliers, IFE providers and cabin vendors to substantiate engineering dispositions.
• Provide engineering support during modification, installation, testing, and entry-into-service activities.
• Maintain awareness of day-to-day airline operations and adjust priorities accordingly.
• Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and company manuals.
• Strive to improve technical expertise, time management and communication skills.
• Mentor other engineers in area(s) of expertise.

• This job is a member of the Cabin Projects Engineering Team within the Integrated Operations Division.
• Responsible for supporting Engineering activities to define, develop, and implement new cabins and aircraft equipment. This job also establishes maintenance programs and standards for the ongoing maintenance of aircraft and components within area(s) of responsibility.

What you'll do

• Lead aircraft cabin modification projects from requirements definition through certification, installation, and entry into service while managing technical scope, schedule, risks, stakeholder expectations, and overall project execution. Assist in completion of projects outside of leadership assignments
• Serve as the primary technical focal point for assigned cabin modification projects, coordinating activities across Engineering, Maintenance, Supply Chain, Marketing, suppliers, MROs, regulatory authorities, and with other airline departments.
• Develops action plans for fleet/multi-fleet and/or component engineering projects and pursues final dispositions according to assessed priorities
• Prepares Engineering documents to implement technical dispositions by providing customized procedures for repairs, modifications, inspections or other maintenance actions which provide benefits in accordance with airline/departmental objectives and management directives
• Coordinate technical activities and deliverables with aircraft manufacturers, seat suppliers, IFE providers, cabin interior vendors, and modification organizations to ensure that Engineering dispositions are properly substantiated in accordance with applicable regulations and company manuals. Coordinates with other airline departments to provide for effective and efficient implementation of engineering dispositions
• Provide engineering support during aircraft modification, installation, testing, and entry-into-service activities to ensure successful project execution.
• Keeps informed of day-to-day airline operations involving field of responsibility. Assesses daily priorities in accordance with airline/departmental objectives and management directives
• Maintains knowledge of current and pending regulations, which affect areas of responsibility and ensures that all Engineering actions maintain compliance with applicable regulatory requirements
• Utilizes available resources to continually increase levels of technical expertise and practical experience. Also strives to improve communications skills, time management and other personal qualities pertinent to maximum effectiveness and efficiency in performing assigned duties
• Conducts training and serves as mentor to other Engineers in area(s) of expertise

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering in Mechanical/ Aeronautical/ Aerospace/ Electrical discipline Required
• 6 years engineering experience in commercial aviation, aircraft modifications, aircraft interiors, certification, systems integration, or a related field
• Experience leading cross-functional technical projects
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams without direct authority
• Strong technical writing and engineering documentation skills
• Ability to read/ use/ understand/ generate detail and installation drawings
• Knowledge of 14 CFR Part 25 aircraft certification requirements
• Familiarity with aircraft interiors, regulatory requirements and aircraft engineering practices

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

• 10 or more years experience in design, certification, or installation of aircraft seating, cabin components, cabin systems or IFE
• Experience leading aircraft modification projects from requirements development through certification and fleet implementation.
• Experience managing project schedules, technical risks, and cross-functional stakeholders such as suppliers, MROs, and aircraft manufacturers
• Understanding of 14 CFR Parts 21, 25, and 121
• Familiarity with FAA, EASA, and FAA-ODA certification processes
• Familiarity with Catia 6/ 3DS modeling software

Skills, Licenses & Certifications

• A&P license
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
• Ability to analyze technical data and make data driven decisions
• Demonstrates aptitude, ability and willingness to take on new roles and responsibilties
