Job summary

GE Vernova is seeking a Senior Wind Turbine Sensors & Controls Hardware Engineer to lead end-to-end architecture of turbine and farm-level control systems in Greenville, SC. You will drive NPIs, cost-out initiatives, and technology advances to maximize AEP and fleet performance.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in Electrical/Controls/Mechanical Engineering and 8+ years in sensor/controls design, with travel about 10%. Strong documentation, supplier collaboration, and test expertise are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Controls, Mechanical or similar field is required.
  • 8+ years of experience in sensor, electrical, controls or power systems design.
  • Ability to work in a global team environment and travel ~10%.

Responsibilities

  • Design wind turbine control hardware including sensors, I/O, and communication hardware.
  • Define specifications for sensors and cabinets and develop engineering documentation (BOMs, drawings, specs).
  • Define test/validation requirements and support lab testing.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and site teams for root-cause analysis and turbine retrofits.
  • Support product development reviews and present design details to chief engineers for approval.
  • Occasionally travel to sites to support testing or resolve customer issues.

Job Description Summary

The Senior Wind Turbine Sensors & Controls Hardware Engineer is responsible for the end-to-end architecture and component strategy of our turbine and farm-level control systems. In this role, you will lead the development of innovative products and solutions, execute business-critical New Product Introductions (NPI), drive cost-out initiatives, and advance technology to maximize Annual Energy Production (AEP) and ensure world-class fleet performance.

Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
  • Be responsible for technical design of wind turbine controls hardware, including sensors (temperature, proximity, vibration, etc.), I/O, and communication hardware
  • Define specifications and requirements for sensors and communication systems and cabinets
  • Be responsible for continuous development of proper engineering documentation, including bills of material, drawings, specifications, manufacturing & field instructions, guidelines, etc.
  • Define test and validation requirements. Support and execute lab testing
  • Work with suppliers and site teams on component root cause analysis. Lead turbine component retrofits and upgrades for wind turbines
  • Support product development programs, design review discussions and present relevant design details to chief engineers for evaluation and approval
  • Occasionally travel to site to support product testing and/or customer issues
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or similar field required
  • Renewable Energy emphasis preferred
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in sensor, electrical, electronic, controls or power systems design
  • Ability to succeed in a global team environment
  • Self-starter, who delivers results with minimal supervision
  • Willingness to travel approximately 10% of the time
Desired Characteristics
  • Master of Science Degree in in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects in a global, matrix organization
  • Experience with industrial communication protocols such as PROFIBUS, PROFINET, MODBUS, OPC-UA, and IEC-61850
  • Understanding of data acquisition systems, remote monitoring, and SCADA
  • Experience in wind turbines design, specifically in control hardware and software
  • Experience with technical drawings, documentation and BOM structure
  • Strong oral and written communication skills

Relocation Assistance Provided: Yes

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $113,200.00 and $188,800.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set.

Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
