Overview

The Senior Employee Relations Partner serves as a key team member of the Employee Relations Center of Excellence. The Senior Employee Relations Partner supports the company by ensuring that managers are well equipped to implement people solutions that will resolve employee relations matters, build a positive employee relations climate, and enable compliance with relevant employment legislation. The Senior Employee Relations Partner plays a vital role in overseeing employee engagement and retention initiatives for the company.

The Senior Employee Relations Partner works in both a leadership and team capacity to support multiple sites and lines of businesses across a specific geographic region within Quest Diagnostics and its subsidiaries. The Senior Employee Relations Partner also mentors Employee Relations Partners within the Center of Excellence. The role involves collaboration with HR Centers of Excellence, Business Leadership, Management, and Legal to foster an optimal work environment and develop HR policies and procedures.

This is largely a remote role but requires occasional investigations at Quest sites within range.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Partnering with employees and managers to resolve complex, non-routine work-related issues, providing advice and recommendations.
  2. Delivering high-quality decisions and counseling to managers and employees, analyzing employee matters, and recommending appropriate employment actions.

Performance Management Guidance and Support:

  1. Administering coaching and disciplinary processes, including performance improvement plans and disciplinary steps.
  2. Supporting management in preparing disciplinary documentation, ensuring legal soundness, and following up post-delivery.
  3. Participating in disciplinary or termination proceedings as needed.
  4. Developing knowledge of assigned sites and providing feedback on trends to management.
  5. Coordinating and participating in Reduction in Force activities and the company's Appeal/Peer Review processes.

Company Internal Investigation Process:

  1. Conducting in-depth investigations of non-routine allegations regarding performance, misconduct, or policy violations, and reporting findings.
  2. Advising HR Service Center teams on routine allegations requiring investigation.

Legal Support:

  1. Serving as a primary contact for employment law compliance and risk mitigation.
  2. Monitoring legislative changes and recommending policy updates.
  3. Supporting employment litigation and related activities.

Policy Review and Development:

  1. Providing guidance for developing policies, processes, and tools for the Employee Relations Center and HR teams.

Employee Engagement and Retention:

  1. Monitoring retention and turnover metrics.
  2. Using engagement tools such as surveys and focus groups to address employee relations issues.

Leadership / Mentorship:

  1. Providing guidance and sharing expertise with Employee Relations Center resources.

Qualifications:

  • Required: 7-10 years in HR Generalist or Employee Relations roles in comparable organizations.
  • Preferred: 2 years of leadership experience through mentorship, supervision, or project management.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods.
  • Ability to work in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.

Knowledge:

  • Understanding of employment law and regulations.
  • Familiarity with HR systems such as HRIS, reporting, and case management.

Skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Professionalism, tact, and sensitivity in dealing with people.
  • Critical thinking and ability to prioritize.
