Job description

The Carbon Robotics LaserWeeder™ leverages advanced robotics, computer vision, AI/deep learning, and lasers to eliminate weeds with sub-millimeter accuracy—all without herbicides. This innovative solution reduces environmental impact, promotes soil health, and helps farmers address labor shortages and rising costs. Designed in Seattle and built at our cutting-edge manufacturing facility in Richland, Washington, the LaserWeeder is setting a new standard for automated weed control. With $157 million in funding from prominent investors such as BOND, NVentures (NVIDIA’s venture arm), Anthos Capital, Fuse Venture Capital, Ignition Partners, Revolution, Sozo Ventures, and Voyager Capital, Carbon Robotics is driving innovation.

As a no-nonsense team with a bias for action, we take pride in executing our ideas. Whether it’s designing transformative technology or visiting farms to ensure our products are reliable and safe, we do whatever it takes to deliver for our customers.

Working here means tackling big problems with big impact. You’ll find opportunities to grow professionally, solve complex challenges, and make meaningful contributions to a mission that matters. At Carbon Robotics, we trust our team to act independently and make practical, real-world decisions.

Join us as we innovate, execute, and build the future of farming together.

As Sr. Electrical Engineer, PCB Design at Carbon Robotics, you will design the circuit boards that power our revolutionary products. You’ll create everything from high-reliability embedded control boards to power electronics that operate in harsh agricultural environments. From rapid prototyping to optimizing for high-volume manufacturing, you’ll do whatever it takes - which might include going to the farm - to ensure our customers have reliable and safe products.

What you'll do:
  • Own, maintain, and optimize the company’s Altium 365 / Altium Vault infrastructure.
  • Help establish corporate PCB design standards, manage the centralized component library (including lifecycle states, sourcing data, and footprints), and streamline ECAD templates and workflows for the engineering team.
  • Help establish and implement standardized Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and Design for Test (DFT) strategies across all product lines.
  • Design mixed-signal boards integrating precision analog, digital processing, and power management.
  • Optimize PCB layouts for EMI/EMC compliance, thermal management, and automotive reliability standards.
  • Support contract manufacturers through prototyping, bring‑up, test development, and production ramp.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities for Success:
  • 7+ years experience in PCB design for embedded systems and power electronics.
  • Expert proficiency in Altium Designer (v18+) including multi-board projects, Altium Harness Creator, Altium SPICE, template creation, and library management.
  • Experience with administering Altium Designer/Altium 365.
  • Proficiency in embedded systems including microcontrollers, FPGAs, and communication interfaces.
  • Experience with power electronics layout including thermal management and high-current routing.
  • Experience with high-speed digital design (DDR interfaces, differential pairs, impedance control).
  • Previous experience developing PCBs for agricultural/automotive/aerospace applications that meet strict environmental (vibration, temperature, high humidity, EMC) and regulatory requirements.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes, component selection, and cost optimization.
  • Willingness to travel ~10% of the time to support products in the production & field environments with a demonstrated ability to work directly with internal and external stakeholders/customers.
  • BS+ in Electrical Engineering or related field.

Base salary range: $175,000—$200,000 USD.
