Job Overview

The Senior Electrical Engineer will have experience in power distribution, lighting, low voltage (power limited) systems, and telecommunications design. The role involves planning, design, and coordination of electrical systems with team members and clients to meet project expectations. Low voltage experience includes security and access control, CCTV, telecommunications with wireless access, high-speed data access, voice/data/video, and familiarity with structured cabling standards. The candidate should have experience supervising and leading a team. This position is based in AVCON's Charlotte, North Carolina office.

Essential Functions
  1. Evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques on moderately complex projects.
  2. Review plans and prepare or review technical specifications, contract documents.
  3. Assist in resolving design problems, including field investigations, detailed design work, and checking computations.
  4. Build and maintain client relationships, ensuring client satisfaction.
  5. Participate in developing and expanding the team and business strategies.
  6. Draft cost estimates, reports, and document materials and quantities for final payment.
  7. Make design recommendations based on field conditions.
  8. Support marketing efforts with technical information.
  9. Act as a technical resource for airport and/or MEP team requests related to low voltage systems.
  10. Develop low voltage design templates, standards, and guidelines.
  11. Evaluate contractor performance and compliance.
  12. Coordinate utility infrastructure requirements into low voltage designs.
  13. Plan and design low voltage systems, including layouts and equipment selection.
  14. Lead QA/QC efforts for the department.
  15. Mentor and supervise junior staff, providing feedback on workload.
  16. Occasional night and weekend work may be required.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 10+ years of experience.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD; Revit and CTS are desirable.
  • Knowledge of building codes and industry standards.
  • Experience with low voltage systems, including fire alarm, security, CCTV, communications, and networks.
  • Experience in airport projects is desirable.
  • Proficiency in MS Outlook, Excel, Word.
Skills and Abilities
  • Familiarity with TIA/EIA standards.
  • Ability to resolve complex design issues.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Strong command of English language skills.
Licensure
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Professional Engineer license, with ability to obtain North Carolina licensure within six months.
  • Multi-state licensure is preferred.
Additional Information

Supervisory skills are preferred. The work environment is mainly an office setting, with occasional outdoor site visits. Physical requirements include sitting for long periods, lifting up to 40 pounds, and good vision capabilities. Proper PPE must be used on site as per protocol.
