Job summary

Farnsworth Group, Inc. seeks a Sr. Electrical Engineer - Building Systems in Phoenix, AZ. You will lead multi-project assignments for power, lighting and fire alarm design, interacting with clients and contractors.

This client-facing role is entrepreneurial and reports to a Senior Engineering Manager or Principal, with mentoring and growth opportunities to develop your leadership and technical skills across projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Architectural Engineering.
• 7+ years of building power and lighting design experience.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
• Experience mentoring staff and leading projects.
• Design experience for medium/large commercial and institutional facilities.
• Proficient with Revit, AutoCAD and MS Office.
• Experience with Carrier HAP or Trane Trace.

Responsibilities

• Prepare power, lighting and fire alarm construction drawings and specifications.
• Perform construction administration including submittal reviews.
• Develop preliminary schematics through final designs with calculations and layouts.
• Lead code research and apply codes to projects.
• Interface with other disciplines, clients and contractors to deliver projects.
• Provide leadership and coordination of the project production staff.
• Assist in maintaining budgets and schedules while pursuing quality results.
• Conduct quality control reviews of electrical work.
• Assist in business development, including fee proposals and scoping walks.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job description

Farnsworth Group is seeking a Sr. Electrical Engineer - Building Systems to join our team. In this role, you will assume multi-project responsibilities for Power, Lighting and Fire Alarm design. It is client-facing, entrepreneurial and reports to a Senior Engineering Manager or Principal, who will also provide mentoring and training opportunities to help you grow.

What You’ll Do:

• Prepare accurate power, lighting and fire alarm construction drawings, including specifications.
• Perform construction administration, including submittal reviews and project revisions during construction.
• Prepare preliminary schematics through final designs for projects, including calculations, equipment selection, and layouts.
• Actively engage in and assume responsibility for code research and application.
• Interface with other disciplines, clients, and contractors, leading projects to successful completion
• Provide leadership, mentoring, and coordination of the production staff.
• Assist in maintaining project design budgets and schedules while pursuing quality results.
• Perform quality control reviews of electrical work done by others.
• Assist in business development activities, including writing fee proposals and conducting project scoping walks with potential clients.
• Other duties, as assigned.

What You’ll Need:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering
• 7+ years of professional experience in power and lighting design for buildings.
• A Professional Engineering License (PE) is required.
• Prior management or mentoring of staff required.
• Design experience relative to medium/large commercial and institutional facilities
• Strong familiarity with Revit, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite
• Experience with Carrier HAP, Trane Trace, or similar
• Strong and communicative team player in a multi-disciplinary environment, able to fully lead projects from start to finish.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to contribute to several projects simultaneously.
• Ability to travel.
